I’m Not An Adult and Here’s Why

Personally, I believe adulthood is overrated. Being respectful of people, doing the right thing, eating healthy, having money, who needs it! However, no matter how I feel about it, it is inevitable.  It’s coming no matter what and all you can do is suck it up and act like an adult.  Unfortunately, at 26 years old, I still don’t think I’ve got it and here’s a few reasons why.

Taxes

Seriously, what is this?

Here’s what I know:

  • You’re supposed to do your taxes every year.
  •  There’s both federal and state.
  • It’s no fun.

Here’s what I don’t know:

  • What the hell I’m doing.
  • What I’m supposed to save. (Receipts I think right? I bought a hot dog at a gas station today and saved the receipt. I’m getting there)
  • When they’re due.
  • Who to give them to. I assume some guy just comes to my house on tax day and I hand him a folder. Badda bing badda boom.

I feel like I probably should’ve figured this out by now but I haven’t.  I’m determined to do my own taxes this year and when I get my tax return I’m opening a bar tab for all my friends! How much will $15 get me?

Voting

I probably should’ve done this before.

Okay, okay.  This one’s just my bad.  Yes. I haven’t voted before. No. I’m not upset about it.  I could’ve voted back in ’04.  My absentee ballot got sent to me at school but the mailroom was on the other side of the campus. Not. Gonna. Happen.

Here’s my defense, I don’t pay attention to politics.  All I know is that Santorum doen’t like gay guys and Mitt Romney is a republican. So with that in mind, I don’t think it would be fair to play a role in deciding who makes the rules if I don’t know anything.  Yeah I know, I could just pay  attention and this problem would be solved, but you know what?  A lot of my problems could be solved by paying attention so don’t think I’m just gonna start all of a sudden just because you want me to.

Bed Headboard

I just recently got my mattress off the floor!

I honestly have no proof that this has any connection to being an adult, I just don’t know any adults that don’t have a headboard on their beds.  I do know a lot of college students who don’t have box springs or bed frames though.

I’m comfortably in the middle and I’m okay with it.

Mornings

How does the day not start at noon?

Adults wake up in the morning.  Non-adults hit snooze 17 times, hoping for that one in a million morning when, for some reason, 10 minutes of sleep feels like 3 hours and you’ve never had a better night sleep.  Honestly, I’d give anything to be a morning person.  Wake up at 6, grab a coffee and a power bar, hit the gym, save a cat from a burning tree (yeah, you heard me), and start my work day like an absolute stud.

Instead, I convince myself I can wake up and be ready to walk out the door in 12 minutes and then almost always challenge myself to do it in 8 minutes for those extra 4 minutes of sweet, sweet sort of/kinda sleep.   Some day, when I’m a big boy, I’ll be rising from my bed like a Pheonix from the ashes (just looked the meaning to make sure it fit here and guess what… it does!) every morning and you won’t know what hit you!

Gogurt

Enough said.

Yeah I eat Gogurt. I know its embarrassing but you know what? I don’t care. It’s delicious and it’s only 70 calories (compared to Yoplaite Lite – 110 and Dannon Light & Fit – 80, Breyers Light – 80).  No spoon needed and you get flavors like Blue Cotton Candy.  I’ll admit it can get messy at times, (I have shot it all over my wall, coffee table and couch all at once) but still.

Greek yogurt and fruit on the bottom can take the business section and go read in the sun room because that just isn’t for me.

I really hope I’m not alone here. .   Everybody has to have something they do/say/eat/won’t do that is keeping them from being a 100% card carrying member of Adults R Us. Feel free to share below.

  1. Hmmm…I just HAVE to respond to the Gogurt. Those “flavors” are not real. They are chemicals and processed SUGAR. Eat one on occasion, yes, but it you are grabbing a Gogurt because yogurt is healthy and you want to be a good eater/snacker, then look somewhere else. I know I sound like a boring, reality-check cashing adult but 70 calories is not the magic “health” marking.

Come to dance early tonight….I want to show you a yummy, fun snack that even a responsible adult could approve. 🙂

    • I’m going to be honest, you may have just ruined my life. Time to do some gogurt research. And I won’t be at class tonight because of baseball? We cried about it last week, remember?

      February 27, 2012 at 8:52 am

      • So gogurt is only 2 points according to weight watchers and apparently thats pretty good. I’m okay with it.

        February 27, 2012 at 9:15 am

      • We all need pleasure food from time to time and it is not worse than some other things, however, I would never use Weight Watchers as a standard. They have Diet Coke listed as more healthy according to points due to calories than regular, while the aspartame, et al. is more harmful there than in a regular one.

We can’t overthink things but also anything synthetic is bad. If we cannot visualize the ingredient when reading it, it’s bad.

Nice post and I appreciate the sentiment a lot given that we have to pay off the mysterious obermeisters.

        March 28, 2012 at 11:48 am

      • Haha thanks for the comment. I’ll keep an eye out for confusing ingredients.

        March 28, 2012 at 1:33 pm

  2. headboards – haha! who would of thought dressing up the bedroom would be so dang costly.

    March 27, 2012 at 11:34 am

    • Seriously! I’m still putting my furniture together with an Allen wrench. A headboard just aint gonna happen.

      March 27, 2012 at 11:41 am

      • The Incredibly Enthusiastic Girl

But there are fun things to be done with a headboard. Where else do you attach the handcuffs?

        March 28, 2012 at 9:48 am

      • Well you definitely lived up to your username. That’s a good point though. I’ll have to put some thought into that.

        March 28, 2012 at 1:18 pm

      • The Incredibly Enthusiastic Girl: Simple! Just attach a handicap-access pole to the wall above the bed… It’s a lot cheaper 🙂

I hope nobody thinks I have actually done this, lol.

        March 29, 2012 at 3:10 am

      • I’m pretty sure we all think that now.

        March 29, 2012 at 9:29 am

      • lol, I would have a hard time explaining that one to the roommates.

        March 29, 2012 at 9:37 am

  3. Perfectly said! haha I’m right there with you!

    March 27, 2012 at 11:35 am

    • Glad to hear it! It’s nice knowing I’m not the only person that doesn’t want to/can’t become a grown up yet.

      March 27, 2012 at 11:43 am

  4. fireandair

You think taxes are hard now, wait until you can’t use the EZ form anymore.

And don’t worry about voting. The lever you pull isn’t connected to anything anyhow.

    March 27, 2012 at 11:36 am

    • This is how bad I am at this stuff, I don’t even know what either of those things mean! I have even more to learn than I thought. Thanks for the comment!

      March 27, 2012 at 11:43 am

  5. I LOVE that you just admitted to eating Gogurt — and now the Freshly Pressed gods have smiled upon you! The world now knows your secret…

    😉

I will whole-heartedly concur that owning a headboard makes you an adult. I do have one, thankfully (I’m 38, so I’d better). However, I’ve never owned a set of matching furniture in my bedroom, and I think that too is a social statement about shirking adulthood.

Or at least that’s MY story…

    March 27, 2012 at 11:39 am

    • So glad the one post that makes me look stupid is the one that gets Freshly Pressed. But I am proud of the gogurt, it’s only 2 points on weight watchers, totally worth it!

Congrats on the headboard, I actually have you beat on the matching furniture. I have a dressed and bookcase from target, they match perfectly!

      March 27, 2012 at 11:45 am

  6. This is hilarious!

I am way older than you and I still have never learned how to take out a loan. I never had to get one before I was married and my husband has taken care of all of that business (mortgage etc) since we were married. I assume you sign away your first born (sorry Kelly) and they give you a stack of money…

    Congrats on being Freshly Pressed!

    March 27, 2012 at 11:40 am

    • Thanks so much for the note. And thanks for the lesson on loans. I always wondered why my older sister never moved with us when we got that new house. I’m learning so much today!

      March 27, 2012 at 11:47 am

      • Your parents had to give her away! Hahaha! So funny…

        March 27, 2012 at 1:06 pm

  7. I still don’t have a headboard for my bed and I’ve got a 16 yo and a real job and pay a lot of taxes. I think they’re ugly. However, when I was your age my commitment to my youth manifested in not paying attention to time, not paying my parking tickets (someone told me the city would one day wipe them away and I believed them…apparently it had happened) going to the movies and remaining in the theater all day, not reknewing my tabs on time ever, not going to the dentist or doctor because I had no insurance, drinking diet coke instead of water.

    March 27, 2012 at 11:41 am

    • I feel like you just described my life, minus the 16 year old and switching the diet coke for diet pepsi. Does that really happen with parking tickets? I really hope so or else I’ve got about 12 different city governments after me.

      March 27, 2012 at 11:51 am

      • I wish it did happen with the parking tickets…I wound up taking out a big loan to pay them all off…my brother had to co-sign ;). I remember when my husband and I first had our daughter…we were sitting in the grocery store parking lot with the little bundle just days old and we were playing paper, scissors, rock to decide who got to run into the store for whatever we needed. We were jonsing for life without the saddle like nobody’s business. For the longest time we would just stare at people who were doing “nothing” with their time and say “did we used to be like that”? We wasted a lot of time, but we didn’t know we were wasting it. Now we’re crazy, trying to do all the stuff we should have been doing when we had the time. Our daughter is older too, so we have to go back to entertaining ourselves.

You’re probably fine with the parking tickets 😉

        March 27, 2012 at 11:58 am

      • Yikes I better start paying off those tickets. And I can’t tell, were you okay that you were wasting time enjoying doing nothing or do you wish you had done something with that time?

        March 27, 2012 at 12:04 pm

      • well…I’m not one for regret, but if I had been able to believe my life mattered a bit sooner I might have been able to engage with it a bit more effectively. I think I wasted a lot of time because I was kinda lost. As you get older you really start to think, damn, time’s a tickin’. It was kind of nice to float along too 😉 I read a great book when I was in my mid-thirties, it was called, “How to be a grown-up”. It was interesting to me at the time, my coworkers all started reading it…we were all well into adulthood at that point but we were just amazed at how the years hadn’t translated into us actually “feeling grown-up”.

        March 27, 2012 at 12:17 pm

      • I’ll have to check that book out since I’m clearly in need of some advice on the topic.

        March 27, 2012 at 12:22 pm

      • oh, no, you don’t need advice…you just got Freshly Pressed! You should live it up 😉 Jump out of an airplane or something. Then you might get Freshly Pressed again 😉 Then I could say…hey, I was the grown-up who told him to do that….

        March 27, 2012 at 12:41 pm

      • Haha sounds like a plan. I’m flying to Boston next weekend, maybe I’ll jump out half way home.

        March 27, 2012 at 12:45 pm

      • prosewithabbitude

They don’t! Not sure where you live. Here in DC late fees get tacked on and after about 3 or 4 late fees they turn it all over to a collection agency and it shows up as a bad mark on your credit report. In Montgomery County, MD they place a boot on your car. My mistakes taught me!

        March 27, 2012 at 1:49 pm

      • I guess I’ll find out how Denver handles it in a few months then.

        March 27, 2012 at 1:55 pm

      • prosewithabbitude

I started contesting them – even if I validly deserved the parking ticket. It’s a pain in the ass to write and mail the letter, but I managed to get four waived.

        March 27, 2012 at 1:58 pm

      • Haha wow that is impressive. I like that you argue them rather than avoid them, well done.

        March 27, 2012 at 2:06 pm

  8. I am 25 and I will drop everything, including due-in-the-next-30-minutes work, if The Fairly Odd Parents are on TV. If there is Gogurt in the fridge at the same time, so much the better.

    March 27, 2012 at 11:43 am

    • Haha it’s nice to meet some like-minded-people. Growing up is overrated and Gogurt is so underrated, what is this world coming to!?

      March 27, 2012 at 11:52 am

      • I’m afraid it’s coming to the sort of place where you have to always use the handrails for their intended purpose, can’t take flash photography, and are expected to know how to properly pronounce “maturity” without giggling. We should start stockpiling gogurt and comic books.

        March 27, 2012 at 12:59 pm

      • Oh trust me, I’ve got one and half packs of 16 pack gogurts in my fridge, im stocked up. Comic books I’ll need to do some work on. We should probably make it a point to use flash photography every where and slide down every hand rail we can find.

        March 27, 2012 at 1:06 pm

      • I’m way ahead of you re: comic books and handrails. I will have to step up my flash photography efforts, however.

        March 27, 2012 at 1:15 pm

  9. Okay, seriously, I don’t understand the whole “waking up in the morning makes you an adult.” As long as you’re not neglecting your responsibilities, who cares, really?

I voted once…but I got my absentee ballot in super late so I don’t even know if it ended up counting. But I still did it, I suppose, and the candidate I wanted won! (yay!)

I really liked this post…congrats on Freshly Presssed!

    March 27, 2012 at 11:46 am

    • Thanks for the note. Congrats on your candidate! I bet they were gonna declare it a tie, and then the last absentee ballet came in the mail and boom, winner, all thanks to you! I’m not sure about the whole waking up early thing, it just seems like adults do it more than kids (or at least more than me).

      March 27, 2012 at 11:53 am

  10. goodoldgirl

    LOL!

Growing older, much less growing up, does nothing to convert a night owl into a morning person. Trust me on this. I am a master at the snooze button. Unfortunately, I never acquired a taste for coffee so have to face the day caffeine free. Try it sometime. Builds strong bones!

    March 27, 2012 at 11:49 am

    • It’s nice to hear the snooze button will continue to be a viable option for me if and when I eventually grow up. I don’t think I really need to caffeine in the morning, but the mug gives me a sense of power over my work, and I think my work knows it. We have a constant power struggle.

      March 27, 2012 at 11:57 am

  11. Don’t worry about it; adulthood blows!
    Is that clear enough?

    March 27, 2012 at 11:51 am

  12. Ohhhh snap, looks like someone just got Freshly Pressed. Congrats man! Glad to see a lot more people will be introduced to your site and humor!

    March 27, 2012 at 11:51 am

    • Thanks! I did not expect this at all. All of a sudden I started getting comments about a 3 week old post. I was like, wait a second, is this really happening! Hopefully people will check my out blog roll and find the sites like yours that I really like.

      March 27, 2012 at 11:58 am

  13. slushpiler

Okay, now what’s with the bed headboard thingy? I am just twenty but I am sure as hell I’ll not be one bit of an adult before I hit godknowshowmany years!
Also, the alarm snooze stuff: really- why on earth am I supposed to let a ‘clock’ dictate terms to me?
Congrats on being freshly pressed! Great post!
    Cheers 😀

    March 27, 2012 at 11:55 am

    • Thanks! I like your attitude, nothing that I can kill by unplugging it from the wall is going to tell me how to life my life!

      March 27, 2012 at 11:59 am

  14. Oh, good! Despite the number of candles on my birthday cake, I do not qualify as an adult. I love gogurt, and I can’t count the number of times I hit the snooze.

    March 27, 2012 at 11:56 am

    • I cant believe how many commenters like gogurt! I love it! I thought I was the only one out there. It’s nice to be surrounded by like-minded-people.

      March 27, 2012 at 12:03 pm

      • Truth will out. I was introduced to it by my kids. But I still love that artificially flavored goodness.

        March 27, 2012 at 12:05 pm

      • Me too. I just can’t help it!

        March 27, 2012 at 1:56 pm

  15. I didn’t think others thought like this >< I'm 21 and people nag me about waking up at 12 or 1 when I don't have to wake up early…Good to know I'm not alone!!

    March 27, 2012 at 11:59 am

    • Definitely not, tell those people to shut it or I’ll come over there and give them a noogie!

      March 27, 2012 at 12:04 pm

  16. The day SHOULD start at noon. Do we really need to be at work all these hours?
I think people would be more productive if they were able to get more sleep too. Everybody knows the best sleep occurs between 6 and 9 am. It’s not a time to bet getting out of bed.

    March 27, 2012 at 12:00 pm

    • I am 100% down with this. I say we change the work day from 9-5 to 12-3. If everyone does it then no one will fall behind! You start, I’ll follow.

      March 27, 2012 at 12:05 pm

    • So appropriate thar your post hit at noon 😛

      March 27, 2012 at 1:24 pm

  17. Fincastle Mom

Good news is you can do/not do all the things on your list and still not feel like an adult – until you buy your first piece of BRAND NEW (not just new to you) furniture. (From the FURNITURE STORE – not Wal-Mart.)

After that, you’re sunk. You’re really an adult.

On the plus side, it puts you that much closer to retirement!

    March 27, 2012 at 12:03 pm

    • Haha that’s good to know. Especially since all of my furniture is currently from past tenants, Target, and Craigslist. I will avoid that furniture store with all my strength.

Where does IKEA fall in this picture?

      March 27, 2012 at 12:07 pm

  18. The headboard thing fell off the grown-up requirements list a few years ago, so you’re good. And guess what? If and when you ever have kids (or nieces or nephews), the Gogurt comes back into play anyway, so you’re ahead of the curve! So go ahead and hit your snooze button, just dont oversleep on election day – ah what the hell, there’ll be another one four years after this one. . .

    March 27, 2012 at 12:09 pm

    • Haha thanks for your note. I love your outlook on that, silver linings everywhere! I think gogurt is going to be a staple in my house for a long time. And I’m happy to hear about the whole headboard thing, what a waste!

      March 27, 2012 at 12:14 pm

  19. Dont like gogurt, but frosted animal crackers ROCK, is there an adult version of those like round or square types??????

    March 27, 2012 at 12:09 pm

    • Haha frosted animal cracker really are amazing! If there is an adult version, it will be super boring and probably made from whole wheat. My suggestion, just go all the way back to child hood and go with animal crackers and cake frosting. Big kid version of dunkaroos.

      March 27, 2012 at 12:16 pm

  20. Thanks for the laughs! I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up (I’m 41), but I can do my own taxes, and I get up at 6 am (yes, it really does exist).

Darn, guess I’m all grown up 😉

    Congrats on being Freshly Pressed!

    March 27, 2012 at 12:11 pm

    • Thanks so much for your note. I’m actually planning on doing my taxes this year! I’m so nervous. Prepare yourself for a post in a few months on the pros and cons of being audited (no clue what the pros would be)

      March 27, 2012 at 12:17 pm

  21. This is all so true. I definitely don’t have a headboard. I’m still at the air mattress on the floor stage, but I blame that on moving. Taxes make no sense to me. I wish someone would come to the door and just tell me what I owe, and as much as I have tried over and over to become a morning person I am afraid there is just no hope. Great post. Thanks

    March 27, 2012 at 12:16 pm

    • Haha thanks for the note. Nothing wrong with a little air mattress time. You’re ready for some rafting in case of a flash flood. And I’m with you on the taxes. Just take my money, don’t make me think!

      March 27, 2012 at 12:20 pm

  22. I am (age withheld) and I don’t bother having a headboard either. What.Is.The.Point? Though I *do* have some decorative pillows that sort of act as a headboard. I draw the line at footboards, though. No can do… my feet need to be free!

I only gave up the hours-of-snooze-button last year, when I read something about how it would be more restful to *actually* sleep until the time I should get up, and then just actualy get up at that time. So I set my clocks for later, and no longer Snooze. (Just as well, since every so often I would *mean* to hit snooze and end up turning off the alarm instead. It’s really the jumpstart to the day to wake up and realize one is late not only for their 8:30 start, but also for their 10AM meeting.)

    March 27, 2012 at 12:16 pm

    • oh my god, I can’t count the number of times I’ve dismissed my alarm by mistake or on purprose thinking I’d be getting up and then launching my head off the pillow with about 2 minutes to get ready and out the door! I think I’m going to try actually just setting my alarm for when I usually get out of bed. I’m afraid I’m still going to snooze though and end up 30 minutes late for work.

      March 27, 2012 at 12:21 pm

      • My first week, I moved the clock out of reach, so I couldn’t auto-pilot the snooze without thinking about it. Totally helped.

        March 27, 2012 at 12:32 pm

      • Ok! I’m going to try this tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes.

        March 27, 2012 at 12:36 pm

  23. jgh

Hah! This is hilarious. I’m 26 and I sleep on the floor.

I also think we should bring back afternoon nap time from preschool days.

    March 27, 2012 at 12:18 pm

    • I am 100% down with that! No one is productive from 2-3, why not go to sleep and make your 3-5 that much better! It’s people like me and you that should be running this world, they’ll realize that someday… I hope.

      March 27, 2012 at 12:24 pm

  24. Don’t worry, western culture is designed so that we never really have to become adults – ever! 🙂

But just for fun, here’s some good starting points if you really want to start pondering the nature of voting and taxes…. as far as gogurt, headboards and sleeping are concerned – I don’t know what to suggest 😉

    Good luck!

    March 27, 2012 at 12:21 pm

    • Thanks for your note. I definitely need to step my game up when it comes to taxes and voting, I think I’m ok with the others for now.

      March 27, 2012 at 12:25 pm

  25. Please expand on this list…

I’m in the same boat. 26 years old and PUSHING myself towards ‘adulthood’

    March 27, 2012 at 12:22 pm

    • I think that’s the problem. Pushing ourselves towards adulthood, why are we doing that? Being not an adult is like 400% more fun. Adulthood can have me when I’m ready, until then its snooze buttons and gogurts all the way.

      March 27, 2012 at 12:27 pm

  26. The key to staying young longer is to marry a good lady who will take care of all of the bullshit you don’t feel like taking care of. If I could trust her to vote the way I want her to (I don’t mean vote for herself the way I want her to, though, that’d be nice), I’d put a wig on her and draw in a goatee and send her to vote in my place.

    March 27, 2012 at 12:26 pm

    • Hahaha that’s awesome. I will add that to my 32 Before 32 list, marry a girl to do my bullshit. Done!

      March 27, 2012 at 12:29 pm

  27. When I explain to people why I love working with teens, I explain that it’s partly because I feel like I am still a teen myself. I am an adult because it’s a life stage of the human body, but I will never be a “grown up”… Not that I would ever want to go through the hell of actually being a teenager again. I just don’t think I will ever stop reading YA books or playing video games — and being able to say that I am married, a mother of two, a homeowner, and a college/grad school graduate sometimes feels like I’m just “playing house” and not that I’ve actually grown up! 😉

    March 27, 2012 at 12:27 pm

    • OMG haha I’m so glad you brought this up. I coach a JV baseball team and I love it cuz we talk about the same stuff, I even play video games with some of these kids. I feel like I’m always going to do things liek this because it’s makes me happy and if being unhappy makes me a grown up, then being a grown up is for the birds!

  28. luckyluwi

hahahahah and who says one has to move out of their Parent’s house symbolises adulthood?? pssshhhh if you ask me adult hood is overrated!!! *hits snooze button for the 10th time and turns over in headboardless bed* 🙂

    March 27, 2012 at 12:27 pm

    • booya! I love it! Soo overrated! Parents houses are the best! No rent, great cooking, clean space. Totally underrated!

      March 27, 2012 at 12:32 pm

      • luckyluwi

hahahahaha I know right!!! *explosive hi-5*

        March 27, 2012 at 12:38 pm

  29. The taxes thing, don’t worry TOO hard about, unless you get audited or something. That part sucks (so I hear). As for filing, they are a pain in the ass too but if you try h&r block online they do all of it for you, just as you basic questions, etc. If you claim 0 (If you don’t know, you probably do) you can expect a nice return! Goodluck! And don’t worry, I don’t own a headboard either. 😉 Congrats on getting pressed!

    March 27, 2012 at 12:31 pm

    • Thanks so much for the note. I actually plan on calling H&R block today to set something up. First real step towards adulthood!

      March 27, 2012 at 12:34 pm

  30. This is really a good work. I appreciate your efforts behind that. Have a great day!

    March 27, 2012 at 12:31 pm

    • Thanks so much for your note!

      March 27, 2012 at 12:35 pm

  31. K. S. Bowers

I refuse to give up cartoons or bubble wrap. Ever.

    March 27, 2012 at 12:34 pm

    • Good! Stick to your guns. You keep popping bubble wrap, I’ll keep hitting the snooze. Together we will battle early onset adulthood!

      March 27, 2012 at 12:39 pm

  32. Nullality Photography

I don’t even exist, let alone as an adult.

    March 27, 2012 at 12:37 pm

    • unbelievable, I’ve even got people who don’t exist commenting today. Freshly Pressed an amazing thing!

      March 27, 2012 at 12:39 pm

  33. Nullality Photography

I like the post too, I should of mentioned that!

    March 27, 2012 at 12:38 pm

    • haha thanks a lot, I appreciate it.

      March 27, 2012 at 12:41 pm

  34. Adventures of She

Ha! I feel the same way about taxes. And for voting, I just signed up for the Green Party and threw away my vote for life.

But, yeah, I refuse to wake up before the sun does (or even a few hours after that). I won’t go to a car wash to wash my car (is that adult-y?- I feel like it is), in fact, I just won’t wash my car. I won’t fill up my gas tank until it’s been on empty for a couple days. And I just won’t floss.

When I bought a dog I went through a minor existential breakdown because I felt like it was just too much adult responsibility.

So you aren’t alone! But I suggest you make this list a bit longer. It’s fun.

    March 27, 2012 at 12:40 pm

    • OMG I think we’re the same person. I have to wash my hands everytime I close my car door cuz its so dirty. I drove 8 miles with my gas light on yesterday and floss is for the birds!

Also, I want a dog so bad but will definitely freak out when I realize what it means. Glad we’re on the same team.

      March 27, 2012 at 12:42 pm

  35. Yu-chii

As a not-yet-but-almost-adult, I have to agree with almost everything here.

Taxes? How do you pay taxes? I once asked my father about that, and he said that our taxes are just deducted off of our paychecks, but that we have to declare our expenses and other weird stuff. How do you declare those? Do you send it off to a government office or something? It’s all so confusing.

But the headboard thing, well, that must be a Western thing. Because my family has, up till recently, only slept on mattresses. No bed frames, no headboards. This is what I think about all those people who have actual beds with frames and headboards: You guys must be rich! Lucky you. Recently, though, we have gotten actual beds… but that’s because we’re sleeping bunk bed style now, haha!

Glad to know that even as an adult, there are still a thousand and one things that you still just don’t know.

    March 27, 2012 at 12:40 pm

    • Haha glad to hear there are more people like me. I think what he meant by declaring your expenses if you just climb on to your roof and yell out everything you spent money on that year. If the government isn’t listening, well it’s their fault!

      March 27, 2012 at 12:44 pm

      • Yu-chii

Well then, I’ll make sure to do just that! if the government doesn’t hear, I get to keep my money, haha!

        March 27, 2012 at 1:48 pm

  36. LOL you think you may have a problem. I’m nearing 60 (chronologically, otherwise I’m about 12) and have similar problems!

    March 27, 2012 at 12:41 pm

    • That’s not a problem, that’s called being persistent! Keep up the good work!

      March 27, 2012 at 12:45 pm

  37. Haha….that was hilarious. And yea, I am not a morning person too. The snooze button is certainly a great invention. I don’t know what I would have done without it 🙂

    March 27, 2012 at 12:42 pm

    • I know what I would have done without it- be on time to work every day last week instead of… well… being late every day last week.

      Thanks for the note.

      March 27, 2012 at 12:46 pm

  38. Time for a counterpoint. Embrace adulthood! I don’t want to be younger because I don’t want to be that stupid again. Oh … congrats on Freshly Pressed.

    March 27, 2012 at 12:45 pm

    • ahah thanks for the note. I’ve been thinking about that part as well. Adulthood has its perks, like having money and even a savings account… Some day…

      March 27, 2012 at 12:50 pm

      • Glad you appreciated the counterpoint.

        March 27, 2012 at 12:52 pm

  39. Congratulations on being freshly pressed – an adult distinction if ever there was one (it means you can write). As to the rest – don’t know how to break this to you, but at more than twice your age, I have yet to concede to the age gods – I’m not sure that being adult is a requirement of getting older and I certainly don’t find that my closest friends feel any obligation to keep pace with their chronological age. So relax, none of us are there yet – you are among friends and fellow kids-at-heart, who are fighting certain realities every step of the way (though I do like your headboard). 🙂

    March 27, 2012 at 12:46 pm

    • Thanks for the note! I do feel a bit more like an adult today, thanks WordPress! It’s nice to hear that people can age without growing up. I like the sound of your group of friends, I have a few that can’t wait to grow up. That number gets smaller as they actually grow up and then I let them go their own way.

      March 27, 2012 at 12:54 pm

      • Well consider yourself part of the group! Well, when you want to be – given that there are undoubtedly times when it is far preferable to hang out with friends who are the same age as my sons (and you). But we accept all ages – with the caveat that none of us grow older than the calendar says we have to. 🙂

        March 27, 2012 at 2:09 pm

      • I’m in! See you at the next Potluck dinner. I’ll be bringing gogurt!

        March 27, 2012 at 2:10 pm

      • Sounds great! Sorta..

        March 27, 2012 at 2:13 pm

      • And wine, don’t worry. I drink like an adult at least. $9 bottles count right?

        March 27, 2012 at 2:15 pm

      • absolutely! some of us coated our stomachs with stuff like MD 20/20 (which I would not recommend you try no matter how poor you may be on any given day)

        March 27, 2012 at 2:31 pm

      • haha aright perfect!

        March 27, 2012 at 2:36 pm

    • Haha thanks for the note! I do feel a little more like an adult today, thanks WordPress! It’s nice to hear that you can age without becoming an adult b/c that just sounds terrible. Tell your friends I’m glad to have them on my side as well!

      March 27, 2012 at 12:55 pm

  40. love this post. and now for my non-adult thing:

i don’t have a wallet. i have a purse and things just sorta sink or swim in there. last time i was in the bank the teller told me “please get a wallet”. lol!

    March 27, 2012 at 12:47 pm

    • Hahaha that’s so awesome. Nothing like a nice little lecture from a bank teller. I would’ve squirted my gogurt in his face if he said that to me.

      Thanks for the note!

      March 27, 2012 at 12:56 pm

      • note to self: have gogurt at the ready! 😀

        March 27, 2012 at 12:59 pm

      • haha perfect plan

        March 27, 2012 at 1:04 pm

  41. I sing Rihanna in public.

I ride my grocery cart down the grocery store aisle after taking a running start.

I think cheese is an acceptable dinner.

    I still listen to pop-punk.

I still don’t know how the stock market works.

    I absolutely approve this post.

    March 27, 2012 at 12:49 pm

    • Just Rihanna? I try not to limit myself when it comes to public singing and I’ll ride my grocery cart all the way to my car every time!

      March 27, 2012 at 1:57 pm

  42. Given some of the choices we have had in American politics as of late, not paying attention seems like a decent option.

    March 27, 2012 at 12:49 pm

    • That makes me feel better about not knowing anything. Thanks!

      March 27, 2012 at 12:57 pm

  43. I turn into superwomen in the mornings .. I set my alarm to give me plenty of time but in the morning I convince myself that I only need a 1/3 of the time to get ready … as if …

GOGURT … never heard of it but I love licorice, does that count?

Don’t have a headboard, what for?

    March 27, 2012 at 12:52 pm

    • Exactly! What for! Headboards are the worst. Licorice is good, but its no gogurt! I am the exact same way in the morning. I say, 20 minutes to get ready, then I do it in 7. boom!

      March 27, 2012 at 12:58 pm

  44. savedmylifetoday

“Why I’ll never be an adult” – hyperbole and a half, google it, now! 🙂

    March 27, 2012 at 12:54 pm

  45. This is super! I agree. Only, I don’t work so taxes are not (yet)for me. And voting, I vote. But that’s personal preference.

    March 27, 2012 at 12:58 pm

    • Thanks for the note. And I’m super jealous of the whole not working thing. I did that for a month and a half this year but it wasn’t by choice unfortunately.

      March 27, 2012 at 1:00 pm

  46. i agree with you about everything except voting. i’ve been doing that since i was 18 and i’m not sure it made me feel like any more of an adult (although i did try to educate myself as much as possible about the candidates beforehand)…but, from a fellow stunted 26 year old–i completely understand. let’s never grow up. totally overrated.

    March 27, 2012 at 12:58 pm

    • I’m in! Glad we’re on the same page here. And trust me, I want to vote, it seems like the right thing to do, I just can’t motivate myself enough to care but I’m glad to hear someone in our age bracket is doing it. We need to be heard.

      March 27, 2012 at 1:01 pm

  47. This was pretty funny. And it told a story. Must follow this blog.

    -SKV

    March 27, 2012 at 1:04 pm

    • haha thanks so much for the comment.

      March 27, 2012 at 1:09 pm

  48. This is hilarious! I can’t say I even want to try Gogurt – I’m already hooked on Chobani, I have a head board on my bed, and I’m a morning person…I guess that means I’m well on into adulthood. Thanks for pointing that out. I feel very old. 😛 Ha3!
Taxes and voting on the other hand…that’s for the birds. 😀

    March 27, 2012 at 1:10 pm

    • haha I’m so glad you just said for the birds! I’ve used that like 5 times in my comments already! Congrats on your progress. I’ll be there some day!

      March 27, 2012 at 1:12 pm

      • It’s a good line, that. 😛

        March 27, 2012 at 1:16 pm

      • definitely

        March 27, 2012 at 1:17 pm

  49. OK, this post is awesome. When I was toying with the idea of starting a blog last year, the whole concept behind it was to learn to do all the things I was supposed to have learned a long time ago (ie, learn to type properly, understand how exactly health insurance works, how to shop for non-Ikea furniture.) But then I became pregnant. Yeah, the ONE THING you really need to be an adult to handle properly. I’m due next week, I doubt I’m ready, but the one thing I have learned along the way is that it doesn’t really matter. These haters are just jealous of you and your Gogurt.

Congrats on being Freshly Pressed. Lots of grown-ups never get that designation.

    March 27, 2012 at 1:16 pm

    • Thanks for the note! And congrats on the baby, good luck next week! I’m sure that will help speed up your progression to adult hood just a little bit.

As far as furniture, does target furniture count as non-ikea furniture?

      March 27, 2012 at 1:19 pm

  50. You’re not at all alone buddy….. coming from India, certain habits are different….

but yes, I am 26 and I still haven’t voted… i miss morning sleep…. As alien to taxes as you are… thankfully my company takes care of it to a large extent….

i still want my sundays to start with a bowl of noodles (Maggi) sitting in front of TV to watch cartoons…..

    whooh….. i miss childhood…..

    March 27, 2012 at 1:20 pm

    • I hear ya and a little jealous of your company taking care of some stuff for you. I’m glad to hear this battle with adulthood is an international problem as well.

      Thanks for the note!

      March 27, 2012 at 1:22 pm

      • ha ha…… at the end of the day we all are humans……be it US or India 🙂

        March 27, 2012 at 1:24 pm

      • Defintiely, thanks for the tweet btw

        March 27, 2012 at 1:27 pm

      • You’re welcome…. 🙂

        March 27, 2012 at 1:28 pm

  51. Confession… I freeze gogurt and eat it instead of ice cream…

    March 27, 2012 at 1:26 pm

    • Confession, we’re the same person. I put two in my freezer last night. Can’t wait to get home and eat those bad boys!

      March 27, 2012 at 1:29 pm

  52. You know. Admitting to becoming an adult technically means admitting to taking some ownership of the world.

I think adulthood is ultimately about priorities. Headboards, getting up early, taxes, voting – too much little stuff getting in the way of what really matters. Figure out what matters and only do the other stuff enough to keep them from getting in the way of what is most important. For me growing up is more closely connected to calling. Do what God asks of you and trust Him with the rest.

As for comics think Skottie Young and “Wonderful Wizard of OZ,” and Jake Parker’s “Missile Mouse.” At your age you might also appreciate “Fear Agent” by Dark Horse Comics. Just do a search on Google or Amazon and you’ll find them pretty quick.

    In His Peace,
    Richard

    March 27, 2012 at 1:29 pm

  53. Congrats on being Freshly Pressed!

I love Goghurt, mac and cheese, waking up at noon, coloring books and teddy bears 😛

I worked nights, when I worked, just so I could sleep during the day when everyone else was working. I’m 43 with three kids and I’m STILL not a grown up. I’ve voted twice. Never bought a car because my guys do that. I’m 43 and never had a headboard till my third marriage. It was just something I never thought of. After our last move, I know why UGH.

My advice to my kids is always “Stop growing so fast, don’t you know that being a grown up SUCKS?!?!”

    March 27, 2012 at 1:31 pm

    • Haha that is such good advice. Keep them young, like you. Gotta pay attention the the important stuff and not the stuff the rest of the world wants you to think is important. Gogurt and Snooze Buttons forever!

      March 27, 2012 at 1:35 pm

  54. congratulations. you’re a lazy sh#t. and you seem proud of it. hey, if you’re going to do something, do it well. you’re doing it well.

    March 27, 2012 at 1:41 pm

    • I can’t tell if this is a compliment or not but I’m going to assume it is and thank you for it!

      March 27, 2012 at 1:43 pm

      • it’s as tongue-in-cheek as your post is. assuming it is.

        March 27, 2012 at 1:45 pm

      • Well ow I have to thank you again because that last comment forced me to look up the meaning of tongue and cheek. thanks for all your help today!

        March 27, 2012 at 1:53 pm

      • glad to help. carry on.

        March 27, 2012 at 1:56 pm

  55. I really liked this! I used to be a grown up and then I stopped and now I’m trying how to find my way back to big people world. It has it’s pros and cons… being a morning person, hitting the gym and saving cats are all lovely ways to start the day. (PS, I know lots of real grown ups who eat go-gurt)… however being too grown up is LAME. I think it’s all a balance…. In regards to taxes, I have done my own before because I’ve usually been a student or something and I never make enough money to even have to worry about it. Taxact is great and easy. However, this year, I seem to be running into all sorts of snafus and after talking to a CPA, I realize I actually have to call the IRS (Doesn’t get much more grown up than that) to sort out a snafu someone else made…. Good times.

Thanks for this. I’m glad I’m not the only one who struggles with finding a comfortable way to be a grown up.

    Have a lovely day,
    Currie

    March 27, 2012 at 1:42 pm

    • Thanks so much for the note. I had no idea you could become an adult and then undo that, that’s kind of exciting news in case I hate adulthood as much as I expect I’m going to. I’ve been in the same boat taxes, wise, 4 years of college, 2 years of grad school, so many unpaid internships I never had enough to pay taxes on or enough for the government to care if I didn’t.

      Good luck this year!

      March 27, 2012 at 1:45 pm

      • That is sort of the upside of poverty, right? Good luck to you too. 🙂

        March 27, 2012 at 2:32 pm

  56. Mormon Soprano

I loved reading this. Thanks for the laugh. I think we can all relate to at least one point or another.

I’m 45 years old and I still don’t get taxes. thankfully I married a tax accountant. I just sign on the line he tells me to. (hope he doesn’t die first). Oh, that was bad…

Anyway, we like to use an online program called Tax Slayer. It’s quick and easy, it doesn’t allow you to get away with any math errors. Your refund comes in just a couple of days by direct deposit. Try it! That’s my “adult advice” of the day.

I started voting regularly at age 35. It took me that long to figure out how to pay attention and start realizing how important it is and what a privilege it is… try not to wait as long as I did. You’ll regret it someday.

I may be forced to do mornings, but will never do them happily.

When we got married we didn’t have a headboard. In fact, we didn’t get one until we were married about 5 years and it was only because we found it in a dumpster (OK. did I just admit that?!) – it was a clean dumpster…

Sorry, but Gogurt is just plain nasty. I guess I’ve reached adulthood at least on that point.
Anything called “Blue Cotton Candy” should definitely not be ingested. Greek Yogurt is actually growing on me (I only like CHOBANI, Pineapple – it’s awesome) . Yep, I must be middle aged.

Congrats on being Fresh Pressed! 🙂 – MoSop

    March 27, 2012 at 1:43 pm

    • Thanks so much for the note. I loved that you got it out of a dumpster, a clean dumpster albeit. I’m thinking I need to start getting involved in some Tax accountant dating websites or something and follow in your footsteps.

      All the best.

      March 27, 2012 at 1:48 pm

  57. I just turned 50 yesterday, and in many ways still feel like a kid. This is the funniest damn thing I have read in a long time. Good luck the the Gogurt issue! I thought it was a food group myself.
    Hugs,
    Kathy

    March 27, 2012 at 1:43 pm

    • Thanks so much for the note, I’m glad I could make you laugh. I’m pretty sure gogurt is getting its own section when the new food pyramid comes out.

      March 27, 2012 at 1:49 pm

  58. What is this adulthood you speak of? I thought it was just a profession or something…and I am pretty sure I flunked out of all those classes.

    Loved the whole entire post!

Especially the taxes part. And the headboard part. Also the voting. And the gogurt part was amazing. so basically the whole entire post which I stated above.

Rock on in your non-adult ways!

    March 27, 2012 at 1:43 pm

    • Hey Cassy, thanks so much for your comment. I would’ve been right there with you flunking out of all those classes. Adulthood is for the birds!

      March 27, 2012 at 1:49 pm

  59. I’m 25 and the only progress I have made towards being an actual adult (using your criteria) is that I eat greek yogurt.

    Hurray!

    March 27, 2012 at 1:46 pm

    • haha that is a pretty big step and something a lot of people have been writing about today. Whats so special about it?

      March 27, 2012 at 1:53 pm

      • Less sugar and more protein! That’s about it.

        March 27, 2012 at 2:15 pm

      • Sounds like a pretty good deal. I’ll pick some up this weekend I guess.

        March 27, 2012 at 2:20 pm

      • Or maybe they just need to invent Greek Go-gurt

        March 27, 2012 at 3:08 pm

      • Business venture time! u get 20%

        March 27, 2012 at 3:28 pm

      • Deal!

        March 27, 2012 at 10:20 pm

  60. Lil' Catkin

Almost this entire post sounds like my life. I have absolutely no idea how to do my taxes. All I know is that my student worker stuff ended up at my house, and my grandmother filed it for me. Putting off adulthood for one more year? SUCCESS.

    March 27, 2012 at 1:46 pm

    • Congrats! We can fight this off together as long as we stick to our guns! No taxes!

      March 27, 2012 at 1:54 pm

  61. I’m 35 and I can say for certain that being a grown up sucks. Don’t do it…

    March 27, 2012 at 1:52 pm

    • You got it. Shutting down grow up procedures right now!

      March 27, 2012 at 1:57 pm

  62. KarmaandUkuleles

I’m only 20 years old now, but I already know I’m gonna be in the same boat as you when it comes to taxes. This is the third year in a row where a family member has reminded me that it’s that time of year again, and the third year in a row where I’ve responded, “I don’t remember how I do that.”

Thanks for making me feel more normal!

    March 27, 2012 at 1:53 pm

    • haha no problem! I’m happy to hear that there are other people out there like me. Thanks for the note!

      March 27, 2012 at 1:59 pm

    • Its always nice to hear from a fellow non-adult. I can’t wait to read these.

  63. We have a whole room in our house dedicated to costumes and party props. I make my living as a professional storyteller and writer, which feels like a kid’s dream come true. But I had a shock recently when my son was teased by his college roommates for eating the candy I sent him in a care package–Good ‘n’ Plenty and Junior Mints. I was crushed to learn they were “old peoples’ candy.” You can run, but you can’t hide. I guess I am a closet adult, because I always vote; it really matters to me. Hey, congrats on being Freshly Pressed. May you never grow old!

    March 27, 2012 at 1:54 pm

    • Woah woah woah! Junior mints?! That is not an old persons candy! That is a timeless candy beloved by all. You tell your sons roommates to come talk to me, I’ll straighten them out. As for the voting, it is definitely something I want to do, I just haven’t found the motivation to educate myself yet. Someday!

      Thanks for the note!

      March 27, 2012 at 2:01 pm

  64. People say that your late teen years are the perfect step to take you into the adult world, but they are wrong. I think it is a massive step from 18 to 21, such a big step and there is not really anything to help you understand the adult world. You’re just expected to know what you’re doing when you wake up every morning, it really annoys me!

    March 27, 2012 at 1:56 pm

    • Same here! Was I supposed to teach myself all of this stuff a while back? If so, I totally missed that. Maybe it’s because I didn’t start using a date book until this year and I forgot to schedule it. Oh well, next time I guess.

      March 27, 2012 at 2:03 pm

  65. I STILL like to watch cartoons. Does that qualify as a not-grown-up-yet activity? 😉

    March 27, 2012 at 1:57 pm

    • Without a doubt and a totally acceptable one. I still play video games and yell at the 10 year olds that I’m destroying.

      March 27, 2012 at 2:04 pm

  66. I dread the day a percentage of my income was taken off for government taxes…

    XD

    March 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm

    • I guess the only solace I can take there is that my income is still so low that I feel like the government is disappointed in the amount they’re getting from me, those idiots!

      March 27, 2012 at 2:06 pm

      • They are idiots, aren’t they? XD You’d think they get enough money as it is.

        March 27, 2012 at 5:16 pm

      • yeah im not a big fan of them.

        March 27, 2012 at 5:25 pm

  67. Go Send or Disobey

I’m at least twice your age and I refuse to grow up! I do / don’t do most of the things on your list but still absolutely refuse to be a grown up! I use an online program to do my taxes, I hit the snooze button 16 times before getting out of bed… at 5 o’clock in the morning, I struggle over who to vote for every election (I feel that’s the only way I’m entitled to complain about who’s in office) and I have a headboard. I did get the headboard for free though, my mother was looking to unload it and I was the last remaining holdout in the family. The only problem I have with your list is your beloved gogurt. But that may be because I am allergic to milk and it makes me sicker than a dog. I have a dog, too. He’s a puppy and we play together. 🙂 So even though I do all those “adult” things I feel I am still about 12 years old at heart. I refuse to get any older than that. So there!

Congrats on Freshly Pressed. It’s well deserved.

    March 27, 2012 at 2:31 pm

    • Thanks for the comment and I’m glad to hear you’re refusing to grow up to. Keep fighting the good fight! You’re the second person who has told me about their headboard but that they got it for free, I think that’s totally acceptable!

Say hi to your dog for me, all the best.

      March 27, 2012 at 2:34 pm

  68. Head board and waking up early?
Personally I had no bed board or frame for two years – it was sort of a Japanese kind of look I went with. As to waking up early – depends on how late you go to bed. If waking up early is being an adult then going to bed late is childish? ??

    March 27, 2012 at 2:36 pm

    • That is some pretty deep stuff you’ve got going there. I think going to bed early is definitely adult, so I guess, staying up late is childish. Interesting…

This is excellent and very very true!

    March 27, 2012 at 2:40 pm

  70. Confessions:

My headboard isn’t actually attached to the bed frame… so it’s kind of like the mattress/box spring is pushed up against a bookshelf.

I keep juice boxes and Teddy Grahams in my office for low blood sugar occurrences, they are much more enjoyable than other options..

    March 27, 2012 at 2:48 pm

    • Ok I guess I’ll let the headboard thing slide since it’s not attached. As for the juice boxes and teddy grahams, great job! what kind of TGs?

      March 27, 2012 at 2:52 pm

  71. I’ve done a lot of grown up things lately, including buying a house and (gasp!) making a baby, and the whole thing is overrated. My 23 year old self would scoff at me (SCOFF, I say!), going to bed at 10p.m., paying my bills on time, and eating healthy.

    I still don’t have a headboard though.

    http://www.railcitybaby.com

    March 27, 2012 at 3:03 pm

    • haha it happens, you can only fight it for so long! At least you’ve avoided a headboard for this long. Keep it up!

      March 27, 2012 at 3:25 pm

  72. I have no idea how to do my taxes either. And I’m so not a morning person. And I agree with you about the voting thing, if you’re not informed, you shouldn’t be expected to have to vote. People should be happier that you’re choosing not to instead of just randomly picking someone based on extremely limited knowledge.

    March 27, 2012 at 3:06 pm

    • Exactly! Thank you! Best friends much? I’m going to give taxes a shot this year and I am so nervous, I’ll be writing about getting audited this summer, I just know it.

      March 27, 2012 at 3:27 pm

      • Good luck with that! I’m going to get my dad to help me with them. And by help me I mean do it for me. It’s probably best that way.

        March 27, 2012 at 8:05 pm

      • Haha that’s what I’ve been doing for 6 years. It’s a great solution to a stupid problem.

        March 27, 2012 at 11:02 pm

  73. Reblogged this on thismomsfranticmind.

    March 27, 2012 at 3:18 pm

  74. LOL! I’m still hoping to get my mattress off the floor. It’s going to be hard since it’s an air mattress. 🙂

    March 27, 2012 at 3:32 pm

    • Haha it’s a big step forward and an exciting day! But at least you’re ready for a flash flood. You do have paddles correct?

      March 27, 2012 at 3:34 pm

      • No! Will my Converses suffice?

        March 27, 2012 at 3:38 pm

      • I guess

        March 27, 2012 at 4:15 pm

  75. hahaha I’ve never voted either. I was abroad in 2008 and I was told that absentee ballots aren’t counted, unless the race is extremely close. I have a headboard back in my childhood bedroom in NY but that was my mother’s idea, not mine (I never understood why they are necessary). I’ve never made enough money to do my taxes (yet). And I don’t eat gogurt, but I eat plenty of other unhealthy things that would be considered childish.

    March 27, 2012 at 3:56 pm

    • Haha glad to see you are right up there with me. Happy to be neighbors with you in NonAnAdultsVille.

      March 27, 2012 at 4:29 pm

  76. I’m with you in a lot of stuff!
I’m sure there are healthier options than gogurt but hey, it’s your life and like Sheryll Crow said: if it makes you happy….
I believe your “not voting because you don’t know anything about the dudes up for election” is the smartest, “adultest” (yeah I made that word up right now, and don’t care if it’s right…don’t look it in the dictionary) comment in your post. It’s better to not participate if you are not going to take the time to really analyze your vote. The downfall of this choice is that we lose our right to argue when the dudes who win the elections screw up and we suffer the consecuences of their mistakes.
Great post. In a way I want to be like you when I grow up 😛

    March 27, 2012 at 4:13 pm

    • What are the odds, because I want to be like you when I grow up! Hey, Gogurt is only 2 points according to weight watchers, so that’s not bad. I appreciate you taking me indifference for politics and turning it into a positive, very nice of you.

      Thanks for the comment!

      March 27, 2012 at 4:30 pm

  77. I still eat cereal for dinner sometimes…

    March 27, 2012 at 4:29 pm

    • Same here. Totally acceptable. I also eat bacon and eggs for dinner regularly, or as we call it, brinner.

      March 27, 2012 at 4:32 pm

      • Pancakes and scrambled eggs are another favourite. I will definitely be adding “brinner” to my vocabulary 🙂

        March 27, 2012 at 4:53 pm

  78. On some of these matters, I can relate. However, you should really get educated on your own country’s politics. After all, if you lose your job because it’s been sent overseas, you can’t complain because you didn’t vote against the guys in office who said companies have every right to put jobs overseas.
Oh, and in case you haven’t noticed, I’m a total liberal. Hope that’s alright.

    March 27, 2012 at 4:55 pm

    • totally fine, I want to get educated, I just have to motivate myself to get it done. I’m not too worried about marketing agencies and coaching jobs outsourced but hey, you never know what they’re gonna do next!

      thanks for the comment!

      March 27, 2012 at 4:57 pm

      • if u need help getting motivated, try hypnosis. i’ve had it done to myself, i do it to others, you’d be surprised by how effective it is.

        March 27, 2012 at 6:30 pm

      • hmm… I’ll give it a shot but I’m pretty strong willed, I don’t think my mind will allow me to get hypnotized.

        March 27, 2012 at 10:30 pm

      • trust me, it’s not about will-power, it’s about how imaginative you are, and how willing you are to let someone relax you and work with your subconscious.

        March 28, 2012 at 6:39 am

      • Got it good to know.

        March 28, 2012 at 12:53 pm

      • no prob

        March 28, 2012 at 12:59 pm

  79. Loving your post – thanks for sharing! Congrats on being FP!

    March 27, 2012 at 5:00 pm

  80. waking up early doesn’t make you an adult. I walk to work around 5:20am and I wake up @ 3am to be a bum on the computer until 5 and then I rush to get ready and take the dog out. haven’t bought Gogurt in forever but when I did I froze it, yum

    March 27, 2012 at 5:07 pm

    • I freeze some of mine too, so good! thanks for the comment!

      March 27, 2012 at 5:11 pm

  81. I was going to cry because according to everything on your list but gogurt, I’ve been a grownup since I was 19. >_> But then I remembered:

    I love stickers!
I wear T-Shirts and hoodies featuring marvel characters!
Super Mario is my ultimate hero!
A romantic evening is cuddling on the couch with my BF and watching Dragon Ball Z
I’ve gotten in trouble for riding the display Ripsticks through walmart
    PLAY-DOH!

    I’m never growing up!

    March 27, 2012 at 5:10 pm

    • Hey everyone stays young in their own way, I love it!

      Thanks for the comment!

  82. Candice Marie Martinez

This is so awesome!! You make me feel better about not being an adult myself. Waking up sucks. Although, I’m slowly getting better at it.

    March 27, 2012 at 5:13 pm

    • Yeah somehow, I’m slowly getting worse at it. I need to do something about that.

      Thanks for the comment!

      March 27, 2012 at 5:23 pm

  83. angelsail

    You’re a funny guy. I like you. Let’s be friends. 🙂

I do have to say though. Gogurts are the most annoying pieces of shit to get open in the entire world. I hate having lunch duty at work just because of the gogurt. For a product that’s meant for kids and big kids alike, they should make them easier to open.

It’s pretty annoying having to track down scissors in the lunchroom to open 14 gogurts that refuse to tear. *annoyed*

I’ve never personally eaten them though. I guess I’m just waiting for the rage of scissor-hunting to dissipate.

    March 27, 2012 at 5:17 pm

    • Done! We’re officially friends! I think you’re missing out on the whole gogurt thing tho. I haven’t had any problems opening them up. It’s nothing compared to getting the straw in a CapriSun but hey, to each his own!

      Thanks for the comment!

      March 27, 2012 at 5:33 pm

  84. Wouldn’t it be a wonderful thing if you could just ignore all the unpleasant things? Ugh taxes, ugh voting for 2 clowns neither of which you like (well it’s like that in Oz), watching the news (I actually do ignore this as I find it too depressing to see what we as the human race do to each other), WASHING THE TOILET!!! I don’t miss, but I am the only one who cleans it.

I have a headboard, and I bought a matching set… why? because it was cheaper and easier to have it all delivered at once hahaha but then the bedroom looked too matchy so I have swapped things between bedrooms to make it more higgeldy piggeldy… who does that?!

    March 27, 2012 at 5:21 pm

    • What a wonderful world that would be. Maybe if I started voting, I could get someone in office to start doing those things for me, like voting. what a world!

      Thanks for the comment!

  85. rose

I had to look and make sure my son hadn’t started blogging 🙂 Enjoyed your post.

    March 27, 2012 at 5:25 pm

    • Haha thanks for the comment!

      March 27, 2012 at 5:39 pm

  86. As a 26 year old who also doesn’t want to grow up, let me add to your list about why being an adult is stupid. Not overrated, just plain stupid.

-Watching the news. I just don’t do it because it’s boring and sad. I’d watch Real Housewives or Teen Mom any day.
-Taking the trash out. You forget one morning and you’re stuck with it for another week. Seriously?!
-Dodging questions about babies. Yep, I’m 26. Yep, I’m married. No, I don’t have children. No, there is nothing wrong, I’m just enjoying myself right now thank you!

    March 27, 2012 at 6:08 pm

    • Haha seriously live it up, I’ll be an adult one day but hopefully its long after I’m dead. Taking out the trash? Oh you mean when you bring it over to your neighbors house at night, got it.

      March 27, 2012 at 6:14 pm

  87. abbieprescott

Yes, it can’t be denied that getting a headboard is indeed a step toward maturity… haha… And as for voting, which is compulsory in Australia, we’re all a little uncertain that it makes any difference at the moment, seeing as our current party booted their leader mid term and replaced him without any consultation from us mere mortals. Quite rude really! Great post. I’m 21 and quite comfortably not-yet-grown-up. 🙂

    March 27, 2012 at 6:12 pm

    • haha thanks for the comment, glad to hear there are more people out there like me. Even gladder (is that a word) that this is an international phenomenon.

      March 27, 2012 at 6:15 pm

    • Thanks man, its amazing what you can do in MS Paint.

      March 27, 2012 at 10:28 pm

  89. Hahaha, oh my goodness, I laughed out loud at the getting-up-in-the-morning thing, because I am in the SAME FRICKEN’ BOAT. My mattress is also on the floor and I regularly cook Kraft Mac ‘n’ Cheese out of a box for dinner. Suffice it to say, you’re not alone. And you know what, maybe “being an adult” is overrated anyway.

    March 27, 2012 at 6:42 pm

    • Maybe? MAYBE?! Of course it is! Being an adult is for the birds! I want my snooze button and my gogurt. They can have taxes and being responsible!

      March 27, 2012 at 10:35 pm

  90. L

you seem like a modern day hero, to me.

i feel like it’s kind of childish that i let spiders and other such creatures take over my living space so easily. i feel like the grown up options is to either: kill it, get someone else to kill it (okay, not very mature) or artfully put it in a cup and release it outside.

in my case i just am like “oh, okay, i guess you can have that side of the room.”

    March 27, 2012 at 6:49 pm

    • Hahah I think that comment made me laugh the most out of any of them. I do the same thing. Bug on the rug in the bathroom? Guess who’s not going near the rug today? Me! Thanks for the comment.

      March 27, 2012 at 10:39 pm

  91. Ha, very funny! I enjoyed all of it, especially the gogart…yum 🙂

    March 27, 2012 at 6:53 pm

    • Glad I could bring you some enjoyment today, thanks for the comment.

      March 27, 2012 at 10:38 pm

  92. Grow up? No one grows up. Their bodies just wear out. Great post.

    March 27, 2012 at 7:33 pm

    • Ha, that’s a great way of looking at it. Thanks for the comment!

      March 27, 2012 at 10:40 pm

    • Haha thanks man, I appreciate it. And I’ll definitely be checking out your blog to see some of those cartoons. PS Do you use the markers that smell like the colors? So jealous if you do.

      March 27, 2012 at 10:41 pm

      • Ah the sweet aromas associated with art!

        March 28, 2012 at 10:13 am

  93. Adam, I can so relate to this post. Get this….I use magic markers and I draw freakin’ cartoons for a living! I know, what can be a less of an adult activity than drawing cartoons all day….oh, maybe writing a blog. Hey wait, I do that too.

Congrats on being Freshly Grown Up…oops, my bad, I mean Freshly Pressed. Well deserved.

    Mr. Bricks

    March 27, 2012 at 7:40 pm

    • I appreciate the comment. I can’t wait to see some of these cartoons, do you do them for your blog? Also do you use the markers that smell like the colors? If so, so jealous.

      March 27, 2012 at 10:55 pm

  94. Yeah I am with you on that one. I am a 22 year old, and I don’t stay with my folks, sometimes I got to think like an adult. But I still love my maynards, I play with my mash mallows almost everytime before it them. You know, I mean it like, “then the giant came, and they all ran away but fat mallow was too slow, and the giant ate him. Yeah man adulthood be overrated.

    March 27, 2012 at 7:43 pm

    • Totally underrated. Not sure what else is happening in that comment but I got the last part. Thanks for the comment.

      March 27, 2012 at 10:57 pm

  95. This is hilarious and well-written. The main reason it’s hilarious is that so much of it applies to so many of us “adults.” Just in case it helps, when I was in my twenties, I couldn’t wait to be 30, because I just KNEW I would have myself and my life all together. Whoops. I hit 30, then zoomed on to 40 and well beyond, and I don’t have it together yet. And I DO NOT own a headboard.

In fact, I can tell you from 60 years of living that I have had the headboard and matching furniture — and I have lived with no headboard and no matching furniture. Neither of those situations has any merit whatsoever in becoming a responsible adult. And personally, I love those packets of frozen yogurt that you push up the way we used to do the orange sherbert things on a stick. So do it your way!

I would add that I hope some day you do decide to find out enough about the government of this country to vote. It isn’t everyone who is privileged to live in a nation where they have complete freedom, and it’s important to do everything we can to protect and preserve it. (I felt free to add this little bit of “motherly” advice since, even though I’m not an “adult” yet, I am 60. I can get away with it.)

    March 27, 2012 at 7:48 pm

    • Thanks for the comment. I do plan to get involved in voting some day, I just haven’t found the motivation to learn about them yet. It will come, I won’t waste that privilege for much longer. I know what you mean about the years going by. I thought I’d have it all together by this point and I couldn’t be more far off.

      March 27, 2012 at 10:58 pm

  96. Okay, I’m almost forty-five and I have been spending all night trying to find the papers the accountant keeps emailing me for (I still don’t know how this shit works), I still haven’t voted (I’m not a citizen of the country), I don’t have a headboard, I eat the gogurt with the kids, I get up at 5:30 but wish I didn’t have to.
Did I mention I am the mother of three teen-agers. Either you should start to feel better or I should start to feel really bad. But really why do we need to conform to the “old people’s” way. I think we are doing just fine.

    March 27, 2012 at 7:49 pm

    • I’ll start to feel better because I don’t want you feeling bad. I totally agree with you, all that other stuff is for the birds, lets just live and have fun.

      March 27, 2012 at 11:00 pm

  97. Bed headboards made me laugh out loud. You’re so right, such an adult thing. I still don’t have one and I don’t know if I ever will! And I have to admit, I, too, hit snooze 17 times before getting out of bed. That habit might never go away! Congrats on being freshly pressed.

    March 27, 2012 at 7:50 pm

    • Thanks so much for the comment. I’m glad to see there are others like me out there. That snooze button was made just for us and I couldn’t be more grateful for that.

      March 27, 2012 at 11:01 pm

  98. On the Gogurt part – I eat GoGo squeeZ apple sauce – very much for kids, very much delicious! I’m almost 25.

    March 27, 2012 at 7:56 pm

    • What the what! That sounds amazing, I’ll be picking that up very soon.

      March 27, 2012 at 11:01 pm

  99. I still eat Gogurt! 🙂 I’m man enough to do my own taxes each year though 😀 Using TaxAct counts as doing my own taxes right????

    March 27, 2012 at 8:05 pm

    • I believe it does because I’m going to try and do the same thing this year. Hopefully I won’t be blogging about being audited this summer.

      March 27, 2012 at 11:02 pm

  100. Nancy

Your father hit the snooze button for years… Drove me crazy! Now that he’s much older he just sleeps through it. I think I prefer the snooze button. Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed honey! Xo, Peter Pan’s mom

  101. uncommonprincess

LOVE GOGURT! You are so right, it is far superior. Although, McDonalds also has pretty good yogurt. Their yogurt in their fruit and yogurt tastes almost like ice cream.

    March 27, 2012 at 8:16 pm

    • Hmmm I do love me some mcdonalds. but if I’m at mcdonalds, I’m either getting a big mac or a sausage egg mcmuffin. No room for yogurt in there. Thanks for the comment!

      March 27, 2012 at 11:04 pm

      • uncommonprincess

LOL, you should consider it for after your sausage egg mcmuffin. No problem about commenting, it was a great post. Happy to see I’m not the only one whose inner child likes to come out and play, especially at the supermarket.

        March 28, 2012 at 1:42 pm

      • Haha okay I guess I can mix in one yogurt with my mcmuffin.

        March 28, 2012 at 1:45 pm

  102. I’m 38 years old. I have children and grandchildren. I get up in the morning, I work, I pay taxes, I vote, I even have a headboard on my bed. And I like Walking Dead comics, Jackass, glitter nail polish, skater sneakers, eating frosting out of the can with a spoon and beating hookers with a golf club in Grand Theft Auto Vice City. Am I a grown up? I still am not all together sure.

    March 27, 2012 at 8:18 pm

    • We all resist adulthood in different ways and it sounds like you’re doing it pretty well. Keep fighting the fight! We can do this!

      March 27, 2012 at 11:05 pm

  103. mkultra76

I applaud your childlike enthusiasm. Speaking as an adult, I find it highly over rated myself, although having kids of my own sometimes necessitates it. Most of the time, not so much. 😉 Frozen Gogurt is really, really good, by the way.

  105. Ach – so many things about growing up that suck. Keep writing, get rich, and pay someone to be your adult self. That’s my plan anyway. Not working well yet, but I am optimistic.

    March 27, 2012 at 8:26 pm

    • Hahahaha that sounds like such a solid plan. First one to do it wins!

Oh god, I did not realise Gogurt has so few calories! This should be a public service announcement, the world needs to know!

    March 27, 2012 at 8:30 pm

    • Yah, it’s low on calories but high in sugar so be careful. But its only 2 points on weight watchers so thats good enough for me!

      March 27, 2012 at 11:06 pm

  107. 1. Calling my dad to ask him how to a. file my taxes, b. deal with these loans, and c. fix my bike.
    2. Eating cereal for dinner.
    3. Saying “I am getting SO OLD” because I’ll be 23 in a few months, but the people I work with are all older than I am. Making them feel old preserves my youth.

I’m with you. Good job getting freshly pressed!

    March 27, 2012 at 8:30 pm

    • Thanks so much. Cereal for dinner will never get old, I refuse to allow it. Thank god for parents and their ability to handle all the things we can’t/won’t.

      March 27, 2012 at 11:07 pm

  108. Kudos for having the guts to say you’re not yet an adult! Me? I’m still living in denial..but hey, I’ll get there.

    March 27, 2012 at 8:39 pm

    • Haha it happens. I mean, what’s so fun about being an adult anyway? I can still do my job well and take care of myself but that other stuff is for the birds! Embrace it!

      March 27, 2012 at 11:08 pm

  109. The post and comments are remarkably humorous and entertaining……………….if taken in that light.

If not………………..yours may be the last generation to be able to express pleasure in living

in the perpetuity of the moment.

    March 27, 2012 at 8:39 pm

    • First downer comment of night. But I know what you mean. I’m not alone in my inability to vote/do taxes but that’s because I spend more time being creative and being good at my job which I hope my counterparts are doing as well. Thanks for the comment.

      March 27, 2012 at 11:09 pm

  110. Wow, love your blog. This is exactly what I will be like after I graduate this spring. Don’t feel ashamed of the gogurt, it’s totally making a statement.

Couldn’t have said this all better myself!

    March 27, 2012 at 9:00 pm

    • Thanks for the comment! Glad to see college hasn’t changed much in preparing their students for the real world! Maybe we can get audited by the IRS together some day!

Pfft noon.. my day use to start at 4 p.m., my classes were at 6p.m.-9 p.m. and my assignments/ work didn’t stop till 3 a.m. (c/o 2011 former grad student)
At least you had gogurt… I had my pick of what ever was picked over/left in the vending machines nightly.

    March 27, 2012 at 9:04 pm

    • Haha that sounds like the opposite of fun. I guess that would be nuf right? Still 4 PM? That’s a lot of great day sleeping right there.

It’s scary how much this sounds like my life.

    March 27, 2012 at 9:09 pm

    • Actually, it is. I’ve been following you around for years, preparing for this one blog. How’d I do?

      March 27, 2012 at 10:44 pm

  113. Haha, I love this post! I’m still waiting for the day when those 10 minutes after I hit the snooze button feel like 3 hours. It’s going to come right? That, or I’ll continue to accidentally fall back asleep for 30 more minutes.

    March 27, 2012 at 9:25 pm

    • Oh man, that snooze button is the best/worst thing in my life. I need to stop being late to work. Do I just start waking up earlier and hit snooze the same amount of times? Ugh, so many decisions!

      March 27, 2012 at 11:11 pm

  114. So, I am 32 or 33 (Cant remember, byproduct of being an adult I guess) , anyway I just wanted to say that as these things may change over time, minor things like taxes and major things like furniture and voting (lol), getting married buying a house etc. Just remind yourself everyday, I am not an adult. I can tell you it is the best part and momentary escape for my day, blog on brother!

    March 27, 2012 at 9:33 pm

    • Haha thanks so much. That realization is both scary and freeing at the same time. I love it and fear it. Because I should be an adult by now but I’m not so who cares? Not me because I’m not an adult! What a paradox.

      March 27, 2012 at 11:12 pm

  115. Kyla

I am ever-so-slightly addicted to fruit snacks (Shark Bites FTW!) and am almost 27. I always feel ridiculous buying them at the grocery store and when the cashier raises her eyebrow at me, I just explain that I teach 1st grade and the snacks are for the kids.

Sometimes they make it to my classroom. Sometimes.

    March 27, 2012 at 9:37 pm

    • Haha shark bites are the best! The mystery white ones? Amazing. That was like when I would go and buy Hard Mike’s in college and say it was for my girlfriend. Nope! Those bad boys are all me!

      March 27, 2012 at 11:17 pm

  116. Meghan

This post made me laugh so hard, but beware – something happens at 26 that foreverafter makes adult-ish things more appealing. I never thought I’d want a sunroom and a carton of greek yogurt with fruit on the bottom, but after 26 it was like, “yah, that sounds okay”

    Good luck out there!

    March 27, 2012 at 9:38 pm

    • Haha thanks. I’ll keep my eye out for the desire for a sun room.

      March 27, 2012 at 11:18 pm

  117. I don’t get taxes either.
I’m a reciept horder only because I put them in my wallet and pretend it’s full of money.

I voted on our (NZ FTW) election day. I only did so because I heard that they were giving out free hemp bikes. They weren’t but I only learnt that afterwards.

    March 27, 2012 at 9:42 pm

        March 29, 2012 at 9:30 am

  119. I had no idea I was so good at adulthood already. Although my mom does my taxes…I will say though that of all these, I think voting is most important (and it doesn’t make you an ‘adult’ so much as ‘not a kid’. I’m also not just talking about things like presidential races, but local tax levies and things, especially if you live in a small town (which i don’t know if you do), because they often can end up being won or lost by a handful of votes.

    March 27, 2012 at 9:55 pm

    • I just moved to Denver actually, I’m thinking about registering to vote this year. I think this is finally the year. THanks for the comment.

      March 27, 2012 at 11:20 pm

  120. THANK YOU for making me literally LOL! I don’t know you and you don’t know me but you were freshly “pressed” (whatever that means), so here I am. I too am 26 young years of age and am wondering if I think this way and you think this way, that’s two of us at least, then every other pretending adult must too, right? It only makes sense.
    Enjoy your GREAT “adult” life!!

By the way, mine and my husband’s bed has been broken for a couple months now. It has been mattress & boxsprings on the floor city ever since. Why? Because we like it! … AND you don’t have to go so far to get to the floor in the morning that way. Because let’s face it, 26 is not the 16 we used to be =))

    March 27, 2012 at 10:10 pm

    • Hahah that’s great. I’m glad you enjoyed it. All of these comments are reassuring me that we are not alone and its amazing. A world full of idiots like me that don’t know anything. I love it1

      March 27, 2012 at 11:22 pm

  121. damn this was funny!!! i’m fifty so i guess that makes me a certified adult. i do have a headboard on my bed but i never dust it. does that count? also, my kids eat Gogurt so i guess i am preparing them in someway for …what am i preparing them for ??? hope you don’t mind but i just had to reblog this. a big THANK YOU for the best laugh i have had this week!

    March 27, 2012 at 10:12 pm

    • Haha I’m glad I could get you laughing. I think I will accept your offer of not dusting your headboard. And I say you snag one of those gogurts for yourself and go to town on that bad boy. Thanks for the comment!

      March 27, 2012 at 11:23 pm

  122. Santorum and Romney are BOTH Republicans. I’m not from the US but I like to watch The Daily Show so I get a lot of coverage on these things and I realize politics aren’t everything but it’s always nice to know a little bit about who is running your country, or who might be, so here is a little heads up for you. They are currently running for the Republican nomination so they can run against Obama (a Democrat) in the next Presidential election.

So now that we have cleared that up there is the issue of taxes. Everyone always seems so down on taxes and yet how do you think the gov’t pays for things like roads and public services? Granted public services like education and health care aren’t the greatest right now in the US but that is why you as a citizen of a country are supposed to vote for an elected official who you think will serve your greatest interests and will make the sorts of changes you want to see in office to make your country better.

If no one paid taxes there would be no money to fund anything, and voting is your way of trying to influence what happens in the political system. That is part of the adult world. The greek yogurt part I suppose. But hey you’re still in your 20’s right? They say the 20’s are the new teens, so really… enjoy your goyurt, and don’t let the headboards trouble you too much – they are all a matter of taste and style.

    March 27, 2012 at 10:18 pm

    • The problem with voting in the US is that there are many people who think their vote won’t matter, and many are apathetic to the whole situation. Certain states are known to go either Republican or Democrat time and time again, so those who are in a different party tend to think “well, what is my vote going to do? The state is still going to lean (Republican/Democrat)” And also, time and time again people have been let down by the politician they voted for when he/she didn’t follow through with their goals/”promises” during their campaign. It’s very unfortunate.

      March 28, 2012 at 6:25 am

      • That’s a common sentiment in many industrialized countries 😦 I agree it is unfortunate, especially when we consider people who live in countries where they don’t have such freedoms and liberties who would love such an opportunity and here we are in countries like the US, Canada and the UK pouting – mean while they have to live in constant fear that they might get bombed or shot, the world is a strange place. One has to wonder if we held politicians more accountable for their actions if they would act with more integrity but it is likely a lot more complicated than that – but I’m sure apathy isn’t the answer either, but I hear what you are saying.

      March 27, 2012 at 11:25 pm

  124. I guess I am an adult…I can’ sleep on just a mattress on the floor anymore…too hard getting up from there…I can remember when I could…that must count for something…? Good post! Enjoyed reading it.

    March 27, 2012 at 11:00 pm

    • Thanks for the comment, enjoy your adult bed!

      March 27, 2012 at 11:26 pm

  125. Haha this is awesome I too am not yet an adult – I’m a 29 yr old kid 😉 But seriously voting and taxes are 2 things that do my head in – whoever you vote for will end up annoying the crap out of you so why bother ? and tax hmm that s something I’m working on being good at – with the help of a very expensive accountant ! haven’t had a go gurt in a while tho – but they are so yummy frozen !!!

    March 27, 2012 at 11:02 pm

      • Hahah thanks.

        March 28, 2012 at 12:43 pm

  126. being an ‘adult’ is crap. Your still told what to do. In order to g out of that trap, you either become an outlaw or a politician(same thing).

    March 27, 2012 at 11:18 pm

    • That is cycnical! And I love it. Adulthood is so overrated. Thanks for the comment.

      March 27, 2012 at 11:28 pm

  127. I still hate mornings and still believe that someday that extra 10 minutes of “sleep” is worth the panic of possibly being late to work is worth it. Well, not really but I still cannot resist the allure of the snooze button.

And taxes are super easy with the invention of online programs like taxact.com 😉

    March 27, 2012 at 11:34 pm

    • You’re the third person to bring up taxact, I think I’m going to look into that this week. And that snooze button, man it’s amazing! Thanks for the comment!

      March 27, 2012 at 11:41 pm

  128. Brilliant mate. This is the type of Blog I’d like to write. Unfortunately I lack a certain sense of timing. I try and keep my stuff lite but personality shines through every now and again. Still, great job. Love the style of writing and I hope to read more.

    March 27, 2012 at 11:41 pm

    • Thanks so much for that comment, that was probably the nicest once I’ve read today. Glad you enjoyed it! All the best.

      March 27, 2012 at 11:49 pm

  129. I love this! You got me at “Morning’s” lol. Every single word you wrote down describes me exactly! My alarm is set at 7am every week day but I don’t get up until 8.30am. I don’t know what it is but those 10mins of sleep between each ‘snooze’ feels so good. Great post!!

    March 28, 2012 at 12:14 am

    • Haha thanks for the comment. You know what’s funny, today is the first day in months that I didn’t hit snooze and its only so that I can respond to all of these comments.

      March 28, 2012 at 7:50 am

  130. Not voted? that i got a problem but for taxes that makes two of us.

    March 28, 2012 at 12:16 am

    March 28, 2012 at 12:48 am

    • Haha thanks for the comment. Ugh even just saying the word monotonous makes me feel grown up. Overrated!

      March 28, 2012 at 7:53 am

  134. this is really cool. I can relate on most, when it comes to the head board i have to thank my mother for donating that 🙂 taxes… well, let’s hope I don’t get arrested or something because I have no clue how that goes yet and apart form deduction on my salary I’ve done nothing on that part. *starts to panic*

    March 28, 2012 at 12:55 am

    • Haha starts to panic, that’s awesome. You’re like the 5th person that has told me about getting a headboard for free, I’ll totally let it slide. Good luck with the cops!

      March 28, 2012 at 7:54 am

  135. The part about getting up in the morning, that’s exactly exactly me. I really look forward to the day when I would get up with a mission at 6 and sleep with an accomplishment snore at night but who can think straight when half asleep and the snooze is an inch away? 😦 Cant understand taxes, hide when the voting day arrives, own a headboard though. Didn’t pick it up myself so does that count? The post was super refreshing, thanks for sharing!

    March 28, 2012 at 1:20 am

    • Thanks for the comment! Its funny, today I finally didn’t hit the snooze, and it was only so I could respond to all of these comments. And I’ll let it slide on the headboard I guess. See you in the closet on voting day!

  138. Awesome article. Congrats on being freshly pressed.. 🙂 The taxes thing is great.. I had to learn from my parents.. and I never understood why it took them half the day to file taxes at the mall. I can get my done on turbo tax in about an hour.
Also as for being a morning person..they are best to watch when snuggled in bed with a cat. =^.^=

      March 28, 2012 at 8:04 am

  142. I think im sort of on the brink of adulthood (Im 25, married and my bed has a head board) but I’m desperately running in the opposite direction! I fight adulthood by – washing up only once Ive run out of clean forks/ not matching my socks every day and staying up late to watch rubbish tv 😀
Great post! Made me laugh, especially the goghurt thing (Ive never heard of goghurt before) x

    March 28, 2012 at 2:33 am

    • Hey thanks for the comment! Keep fighting! You’ll survive I promise. Matching socks every day?! I matched my socks two days ago, that was the first time in 2 years. And go try some of that gogurt today!

Can relate, as old as I am, I can confess to having a case of, what I like to call, “Peter Pan Syndrome”, too…don’t want to grow up. Honestly, this post made me laugh; needed it at the end (very early beginning) of the day 😉 LOVE IT!

    March 28, 2012 at 3:03 am

    • Glad to be there for you. Peter Pan Syndrome or PPS is a actually a well documented disease affecting thousands of people every day (I have no clue what I’m talking about but making up facts is definitely another reason I’m not an adult. I make things up rather than learn them.)

      March 28, 2012 at 8:08 am

  146. Great post! Congrats on being ‘Freshly Pressed’!

Tell me about it! I am 26 and I don’t get taxes either. ‘Gogurt’ is delicious! Who cares if they’re not strictly ‘adult’? I did vote the last time and I do get up at 5.55 a.m. (I don’t want to though!) but I’m still not sure those things make me an adult. 😉

    March 28, 2012 at 3:17 am

    • Haha sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta go, but I’m glad were on the same page with gogurt and taxes!

      March 28, 2012 at 8:09 am

  147. mmm… my sentiments exactly, now i shall turn over and hit snooze and resurface when i’m 38

    March 28, 2012 at 3:45 am

    • Sounds like a plan to me. I think I’ll do the same.

      March 28, 2012 at 8:09 am

  148. You wanna stay away from “adulthood” for life? Come live in the middle east – no taxes for life & no voting for expats.. LOL!!! great post…

    March 28, 2012 at 3:51 am

    • Hahaha sounds perfect, do you guys have gogurt?

      March 28, 2012 at 8:10 am

  149. Miranda Gargasz

Funny stuff! I’m 38 and I just got my headboard and matching furniture. Truth is, my home isn’t winning any House Beautiful contests anytime soon. My home look like a bachelor pad, which makes my husband quite happy. Try the gogurt frozen in the summer. Yummy stuff.

    March 28, 2012 at 4:13 am

    • Oh i know! I’ve got two in the freezer right now! And unfortunately I’ve got matching furniture too. My dresser and bookshelf are from the Allen Wrench Collection at Target.

      March 28, 2012 at 8:11 am

  150. theyellowranger

I support your Gogurt habit completely.

    March 28, 2012 at 4:25 am

  151. I’m 35 and a father of 3 & my wife and I still refuse to grow up. Yes, we own our home, pay our bills, wake up early, do our taxes and all the ‘adult stuff’, but we still play hard, go to punk rock shows, eat ice cream for breakfast on occasion and we DO NOT own a headboard. I think a responsible adult will shirk the headboard because …well, happy kids are the result of happy parents. But the kids don’t need to hear the reason the parents are so happy. Forget the headboard.

    March 28, 2012 at 5:00 am

    • hahahah that’s awesome, I love it. Glad to see you guys are living it up! Thanks for the comment.

I’m 22 but deep down I still feel 16, for every reason possible! Inexperience in the ways of the world, giddy immaturity, naive daydreams, the superficial worries that only teenagers are supposed to have… and also because I’m still trying to find my way in the world. *Le Sigh*

Oh, and because I still get mistaken appearance-wise to be a lot younger! I frequently have to take ID out with me just in case!

  154. Loved the post!!! Even i had a lot of trouble in transitioning from college life to work life all of a sudden. I too hate taxes (i always feel they dont pay me as much as they take away in taxes!!) and getting up early every morning is certainly a drag.

I also HATE the fact that as an adult, you’re supposed to look at things in a ‘mature’ manner. i mean.. what is that?? I still get disappointed when things dont work out the way i want and i still love getting gifts at every possible occasion (though that may have more to do with the fact that i’m a girl, than anything else :)) Anyways, great post!! 🙂

    March 28, 2012 at 6:04 am

    • That is so true! As an adult we’re supposed to appreciate giving gifts more than receiving them. No freaking way! I want a living room full of presents on christmas and they better all have my name on them.

      March 28, 2012 at 12:44 pm

  155. Epic post. I’ve never looked forward to being an adult having to pay rent or even my phone bill. I’m 18 and still think I live a relatively easy life and hope to enjoy it while it lasts.

    March 28, 2012 at 6:05 am

    • Trust me, you will and clearly you will for a long time, as long as you live like me and fight the urge to grow up. Good luck!

      March 28, 2012 at 12:45 pm

  156. I am 40, with two kids, and still don’t feel like a grown up, we only got a bed with a headboard last year. The snooze button gets hit until I have no time left.

The best thing about getting older is that you can afford better toys… If I notice I am grown up one day you will hear the screaming all the way over there!

    March 28, 2012 at 6:16 am

    • Haha trust me, I’ll be screaming just as loud if it ever happens to me. I do like better toys, can I have some?

      March 28, 2012 at 12:46 pm

      • I would like to share, but don’t you know the rule? He (or she) who dies with the most toys wins!

        March 28, 2012 at 2:57 pm

      • haha shoot!

        March 28, 2012 at 3:06 pm

  157. i love the part about the bed. i finally graduated to a real bed off the floor with headboard this year. Yippee! I hope that doesnt mean that i now have to know how to do my own taxes!

    March 28, 2012 at 6:18 am

    • Haha congrats! I don’t think there is a correlation, unless its a magic headboard that tutors you on the ways of the world.

      March 28, 2012 at 12:47 pm

  158. haha I’m 26 so I feel your pain. Luckily, I learned about TurboTax, and honestly, it’s super easy. I swear they make those forms seem so scary and write them so it sounds like rocket science, but trust me, use TurboTax!

Politics. I think we all hate politics. From the little I understand, it’s all a big game. I think there shouldn’t even be parties. Just tell us what you stand for, what you want to change/add and how you want to change/add it, and we can choose from there. Politics: yet another thing they make us think is too hard. (Isn’t it supposed to be by the people for the people?!)

I think no matter how old we get, mornings will still be rough.

And GoGurt: haha! I haven’t had one of those in years! (and I saw in your comments, only 2 points? That’s a 6oz Dannon Light & Fit yogurt…so I guess it’s not terrible points-wise!)

Great post & congrats on getting Freshly Pressed!

    March 28, 2012 at 6:19 am

    • Thanks for the comment! I’m totally with you. Tell me who you are and what you’re going to do and maybe I’ll vote for you. Not really though. I think I’m gonna let H&R block take care of it this year, hopefully they don’t bone me.

      March 28, 2012 at 12:49 pm

      • I had H&R Block do them for me last year. Using TurboTax was cheaper by half. And there’s lots of help areas and live support that you can IM with on the site (Don’t worry, I don’t work for them and I’m not trying to solicit your business! haha)

        March 28, 2012 at 1:08 pm

      • Haha too bad cuz if you did, you’d have my business.

        March 28, 2012 at 1:41 pm

  159. I do have a headboard, but it’s all IKEA furniture that was put together with an Allan key so I guess I am a partial adult. However I hit the snooze button minimum 4 times, but I am always 30 minutes early for work, so again, partial adult. I only vote when it directly affects me and I can make the correlation – see my post for today, so again partial adult! I have no idea what that gogurt stuff is – do the sell it in Toronto?? I am on weight watchers though (25 pounds down!) and remember, just cause it’s 2 weight watchers points doesn’t mean much…it will not be part of the power foods or filling foods so it’s not good for you! Some of the other yogurts will be (not fruit on bottom – still full of sugar those ones)!

    Congrats on being FP!

    March 28, 2012 at 6:30 am

    • Thanks for the comment, you’re like a half of an adult in every aspect of your life, I love it. Congrats on the weight loss. I’m down 8 since I started in february.

      March 28, 2012 at 12:52 pm

      • Keep up the great work!!!

        March 28, 2012 at 2:12 pm

      • Thanks! I appreciate it.

        March 28, 2012 at 2:21 pm

  160. Growing up is quite a pain in the derrière, nothing seems to prepare you for the horror of it! We all just gotta fake it till you make it:)

    March 28, 2012 at 6:38 am

    • I think I’ll just fake it forever, that seems like more fun. Thanks for the comment!

      March 28, 2012 at 12:53 pm

  162. I’m stealing my parents TurboTax as soon as I get home. This is what being an adult means.

    March 28, 2012 at 6:47 am

    March 28, 2012 at 7:49 am

  167. Bobbie Laughman

Gogurt: never had it, never will. I prefer my yogurt unflavored, unsweetened and Not Pocket Ready.

Headboards: overrated. We only have one now because my inlaws got a new bed and gave us their old one. Also, I’m not quite to the half-century mark, but I’ve spent about a third of those years sleeping on a mattress on the floor, and over half my life with no bed frame. But, I may not qualify for adulthood, as I’ve never bought new furniture, other than the kind that’s made to be slept upon. Oh, and office furniture. Desks, chairs, shelving. Home furniture is either stuff that relatives pushed at us because they didn’t want it anymore, or stuff we inherited from other relatives who didn’t need them any longer on account of them being somewhat dead. To celebrate 26 years of marriage, I may do something very adult and shop for a new sofa. If I can get up the nerve for such a major commitment.

Voting: Please don’t. Unless you get yourself edumutated about who’s who and what’s what. Just don’t. And if you only learn about who would be the better choice in one or two races, then you can vote only in those and leave the rest to those who have paid more attention. I’ve left a few blanks almost every time I’ve voted, for just that reason. I figure it’s better than going EENY MEENY MINEY MOE and voting for someone you I know anything about, only to learn later that I helped to get the greater of two evils elected.

Taxes: Have you not paid taxes yet? I had to do a tax return at age 17. Please do a post on this to share with the world how you got to age 26 without paying taxes. Inquiring minds and all such…

Mornings: I sleep when I’m tired and get up when I’m not. And that’s all I’ve got to say about that.

    March 28, 2012 at 8:01 am

    • Well as far as the taxes go, my parents have always done them for me because I was in college and grad school and unemployed for the year in between so I never really had much to do on them. Thanks for the comment!

      March 28, 2012 at 12:57 pm

  168. You had me at taxes — who understands that stuff, anyway?

Regular visits to doctors and the dentist have me begrudgingly wishing I was still in college and could pop over to Student Health Services for a Z-Pack or some Ritalin. Damn you, adulthood!

    And congrats on FP:)

    March 28, 2012 at 8:04 am

    • Hahaha you were a regular for the Z-pack huh? Someone had some fun in college. Yeah, taxes are for the birds! Thanks for the comment.

      March 28, 2012 at 8:18 am

  169. Ahaha…I’m a 34 year old who works at a comic shop and owns more manga, anime, comic books and collectibles than your average teenager. I play magic and Pokemon and enjoy video games often aimed at a “younger” audience. I watch cartoons and animated movies over crime shows and reality TV. Am I an adult? Yes. Am I grown up? Heck no!

Great post and congrats on the “freshly pressed”!

    March 28, 2012 at 8:24 am

    • Hey thanks for the comment! sounds like you’re just living the life right now, I love it.

  170. home, garden, life

    Well said Adam!

I am what people call an adult, yet I had no choice in the matter. Some celebrity said, “I’d rather be over the hill than under it.” Some days I agree.

Some days I am totally fed up with being an adult and the chore of living…housing, living responsibly, self-employed wage earner, head of household manager, taxpayer, healthcare captive, coupled with realities of greed-driven American politics and corporate America. Being forced to witness the demise of democracy in the US is painful indeed.

Another great mind stated this past weekend “we must remain optimistic!” I say old chap, this is challenging, especially in an election year. If we give the Republicans enough rope, they will do a fine job of hanging themselves…Obama is not our panacea, yet he currently tops any Republican candidate… and we know the Republican track record.

Let us face politics readers, as individual Americans WE are hard pressed to change government. Moreover, I am not convinced that voting improves the congressional pile. I vote, and have for years. I write elected officials attempting to change official minds; I received patronizing letters in response. I made no change.

Americans are riding a run-away train, and I see no one in the engine room. So go ahead Adam, sleep in. Perhaps when you awake, the planet will be a better place. I wake early and change comes slowly if at all.

Bill Moyers recently spoke about Capitalistic Cronyism and his solution/suggestion is to limit ALL political donations to $100. Great idea except to accomplish this, there must be a constitutional amendment! You and I both know that will never happen, as corporate America has a death grip on Capitol Hill and who dares to step on Thomas Jefferson’s decaying toes! Every American is at the mercy of the big machine.

Adam, thanks for inviting my response. Will this make a difference? Will these words inspire a young adult to step up to the plate?

In closing, I resign my adult life to improving things close to me, in my home, garden, and life.

I invite readers to check out my recent blogs to see details from my adult world…;-)

    March 28, 2012 at 8:34 am

  171. I’m a bit older, like maybe in my 40’s, and I am still struggling to become more adultish, rather than childish. My nephew tells me I am too childish, and I tell him he is being too adultish! He he.

    March 28, 2012 at 8:42 am

    • Haha I like your stance on it. Keep fighting the good fight, thanks for the comment.

Re: Gogurt, I figured doing Weight Watchers would be a bad idea as I would use all my points eating 2pt snacks such as this instead of eating something that actually had any nutritional value, Slimming World was better, their program means you have to eat healthy stuff. Though “healthy stuff” can be grilled bacon, grilled sausage, baked beans and oven chips – practically a fry-up!

    March 28, 2012 at 9:01 am

    • Grilled bacon!? I’ve never even heard of that. Can I get some?

      March 28, 2012 at 1:07 pm

  175. I’m ten years older than you and am a self employed entrepreneur. Don’t let that fool you. Aside from the maybe 2 or 3 things that I’m really good at, I’m basically a helpless baby. I’m 36 years old and things like opening the mail, answering the phone, fixing things, cooking, cleaning and anything else that is widely considered to be a basic function of adulthood all seem to fall beyond the scope of my abilities. I remember once when I was 22, my best friend told my boyfriend “You know you have to take care of her, right?” She was right. Anyway, I will give you one solid piece of advice with regard to your taxes and what to do with all those scraps of paper: Don’t even try to do this yourself, hire an accountant!

    March 28, 2012 at 9:08 am

    • Haha I love it and I totally agree. Im headed to H&R block this week!

      March 28, 2012 at 1:08 pm

  176. This post made my morning! And yeah, I’m a morning person now. Phooey.

    March 28, 2012 at 9:12 am

    • Ugh mornings are for the birds! I’m glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the comment.

      March 28, 2012 at 1:03 pm

  177. Yeah, I don’t know what to say. At 29 I pay (and understand) my taxes, I have voted in every election I was eligible to vote in (because I am a history nerd and pay attention to politics, presidents and stuff like that) I actually do own a headboard and matching furniture, I wake up no later than 7am every morning and I don’t (and never have) eaten gogurt although I do eat a lot of healthy cereal with blueberries and almond milk. Gosh…you have made me feel so old and grown up. No one ever sent me an Adults R Us card though, do you think it’s because I only wake up early on the weekends to watch cartoons? Fraggle Rock on DVD is still a guilty favorite! 🙂

    March 28, 2012 at 9:16 am

    • Fraggle Rock on DVD?! I’m so jealous!

      March 28, 2012 at 1:04 pm

      • As you should be. 😛

        March 28, 2012 at 1:07 pm

  178. Loved this. Hate being a grown-up. I didn’t get a headboard until weeks before I had my first child. My older sister told me it was unacceptable not to have a real bed and have a child. meh.

    March 28, 2012 at 9:19 am

    • Oh she’s crazy! I’ve got dozens of kids and no headboard!

      March 28, 2012 at 1:10 pm

  179. Nice post. I feel you, dude. I’m 24 years old, and still fighting adulthood at almost every turn. In my head, I’m still stuck between 18 and 20 years old. But, I have a job (how disgustingly adult of me–yuck.), so I’ve gota put on those grown-up pants every morning.

I recently wrote a post dealing with a similar issue–being grown up and having to act like it at work. Check it out: http://ruqaiyahdavids.wordpress.com/2012/03/03/where-do-you-go-to-be-brave/

And congrats on being Freshly Pressed! When I grow up, I wana be like you 😉 😛

    March 28, 2012 at 9:22 am

    • Haha thanks for the comment, I’m the same. I act like an adult at work, but I’m secretly wishing I was home playing COD.

      March 28, 2012 at 1:12 pm

  180. haha love this post!! I am 25 and have a full time job but the rest I can’t figure out either! all these societal pressures give me anxiety. =/ Try dressing up the walls at your place. ugh!
    Thanks for the post!
    Congrats on being “Freshly Pressed”!

    March 28, 2012 at 9:36 am

    • Hey thanks so much for the comment, I’m right here right you. we’ll fight adulthood together!

      March 28, 2012 at 1:17 pm

  181. I’m 34 and still don’t have a headboard and my kids love Gogurts, I only steal them once in a while…
I just posted my angst about not knowing what I want to be when I grow up but there are some good things about being an adult, for instance, I can have soda with dinner and my kids have to drink milk!

    March 28, 2012 at 10:01 am

    • Hahaha sadly enough, one step towards adulthood that I have made has been cutting out real soda. It’s the worst and best decision I’ve ever made.

      March 28, 2012 at 1:20 pm

  182. I have to agree that waking up early isn’t my cup of tea.The “Early to bed early to rise” concept seems not so important.I would say remain this way for life;)…..Way to go boy

    March 28, 2012 at 10:09 am

    • I hear ya, I cant fall asleep before midnight. I wish I could change that but i just love watching bad tv and reruns too much.

      March 28, 2012 at 1:20 pm

      • We have just this one life so might as well live it the way we want to….your title should be ” This is my world and you are welcome to be a part of it” 😉

        April 10, 2012 at 4:43 am

      • I couldn’t agree more. I like where your heads at.

        April 10, 2012 at 9:17 am

      • 🙂

  183. Betty Amazing

YES to the morning thing – I would love to be a morning person, but even when I’m at work at 8.30am, realistically I don’t really wake up for another few hours x

    March 28, 2012 at 10:14 am

    • Same here! Why doesn’t the work day start at 11?!

      March 28, 2012 at 1:22 pm

      • Betty Amazing

I quite agree, clearly I’m not going to get anything useful done before then. I’m even happy to come in at 10.00am as long as there’s an hour’s allocated ‘cup of tea and a calming biscuit’ time xx

        March 28, 2012 at 5:32 pm

  184. i’m 22, my convocation is on may, and i have no idea about adulthood. Seriously..tax,home loan, being matured…err, where to begin with?

    March 28, 2012 at 10:15 am

    • Don’t begin, just keep fighting it! It’s more fun.

      March 28, 2012 at 1:23 pm

  185. I almost spat my lunch out onto my computer when I read about the Gogurt. Hilarious!

I did my own taxes for the first time this year at the ripe old age of 26. It was a very empowering experience … but I’m also a dork.

Every day I do things that disqualify me from adulthood. I had leftover pizza for breakfast this morning. I also don’t vote (and I actually applaud you for deciding not to vote —especially for acknowledging that you are somewhat uninformed). I ate so much candy the other day that I made myself ill (although the candy was homemade, so does that balance it out?).

    March 28, 2012 at 10:18 am

    • Hahaha that definitely balances it out. Nothing like some cold pizza for breakfast. you know you’re really not an adult when you leave the pizza out over night and still eat it in the morning.

      March 28, 2012 at 1:24 pm

  186. Wow! You do taxes, you’re so grown up! Great post though, and good for you not voting. For some reason people try to make you seem like a terrorist if you don’t but it’s not like anyone’s going to be able to solve our problems, much less a politician.

    March 28, 2012 at 10:21 am

    • Seriously, I don’t vote. So what! Back off! Thanks for the comment.

      March 28, 2012 at 1:25 pm

  187. Reblogged this on Em Speaks and commented:
Yes, pretty much. Personally, I did my own taxes this year (well, haven’t done local yet) with TurboTax, and it was a most empowering feeling!

  188. cpaontheway

    Excellent post chap!

    March 28, 2012 at 10:34 am

    • Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

      March 28, 2012 at 1:25 pm

  189. Mother of 2 and No More

You made my morning. Thank you.

    March 28, 2012 at 10:42 am

    • Haha no problem! Glad I could help.

      March 28, 2012 at 1:25 pm

  190. I’m with you on most of these, but I also add liking olives and blue cheese to the list. I’m not an adult yet…

    March 28, 2012 at 10:43 am

    • Woof, olives are the worst! Totes not an adult on that front.

      March 28, 2012 at 1:25 pm

  191. I don’t feel like an adult, but I often break out that “I’m an adult” card when I need to. Like when I want to eat 12 chocolate chip cookies at one time, “I’m an adult, I can do what I want”. Or if I want ice cream before dinner, or if I want to do nothing but play lego video games all day, I’m an adult and I’ll do what I want!! Pretty sure everyone else is just faking being an adult anyway……

    March 28, 2012 at 10:44 am

    • hahahahahaha you are right on! You pull the adult card when you want to act like a child, its quite the paradox!

      March 28, 2012 at 1:26 pm

      • It may be the real secret to being an adult, using the “adult card” to do what you wern’t allowed to when you were a little kid and living at home…

        March 28, 2012 at 2:14 pm

      • haha thats what a lot of people have said. i love it.

        March 28, 2012 at 2:30 pm

  192. Lotto Results

I believe no one wants to be grown up once they are grown up.:) Congratulations on being freshly pressed!

    March 28, 2012 at 10:51 am

    • Thanks for the comment! That’s so true.

      March 28, 2012 at 1:38 pm

  193. Carlie Chew

I enjoyed reading your article, pretty funny. I agree about taxes, they suck! Wish I was a kid again just so I didn’t have to deal with them.

    March 28, 2012 at 10:54 am

    • Thanks for the comment, I’m with you! Taxes and take a hike. Get it? Tax hike. OMG thats gold.

      March 28, 2012 at 1:28 pm

  194. By these standards, I am not an adult either. Which is perfectly okay, in fact a common joke around my house is: my girlfriend and I are secretly 3 year olds trapped in twenty-somethings bodies. But at least we have fun, and stupid things don’t stress us out very much.

    March 28, 2012 at 10:55 am

    • Hahah I’m the same way. I’m a 12 year old in a 26 year olds body with a 19 year olds bedroom. so many ages!

      March 28, 2012 at 1:29 pm

      • That is awesome.

        March 28, 2012 at 1:51 pm

  195. I have a poptart for breakfast at least twice a week, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. They may be full of sugar and preservatives and pretty much devoid of any actual nutritional benefits, but dammit they are delicious.

    March 28, 2012 at 11:03 am

    • Ugh so jealous. I’m so sick of my diet. Granola bars and fruit for breakfast every day.

  196. I agree with this post 100% I always refer to myself as a ‘fake adult’ because I wear a business suit to work and get overtime and all that, BUT the second I get home from work I turn into a child again, with food fights and gogurts and a lack of a headboard. On top of that, I work for a corporate headquarters so even though I wear a suit and am professional, I work from 12pm-9pm monday through friday… this means I set my alarm for TEN!! and still hit the snooze button for half an hour. 🙂

    March 28, 2012 at 11:13 am

    • Hahaha thats awesome. 10 oclock snooze button, gotta love it. Thanks for the comment.

      March 28, 2012 at 1:30 pm

  197. The secret to not being like an adult (all the time anyway) is having kids. I’m loving my second childhood. Excellent post. Congrats on being FP!

    March 28, 2012 at 11:52 am

    • Hmm… didn’t see that one coming. Glad you’re enjoying it. Thanks for the comment!

      March 28, 2012 at 1:35 pm

  198. Adulthood is overrated. (Except for voting which I love to do. I’ll even do it for you, if you let me.)
One way to circumvent adulthood is to race through it and life the life of a pensioner early: http://andreasmoser.wordpress.com/2012/01/07/life-of-a-pensioner/

    March 28, 2012 at 12:26 pm

  199. Can we add health insurance and 401(k)s to the list? WHAT IS A 401K? WHAT IS INVESTING?! Am I supposed to know this? I’m 23 (I had to think about how old I was for a second..does that mean I’m an adult? When I was a kid I could be like “I’m 8 and 54 days!”) and I think growing up is overrated. I am a kid with money now. So when I eat and entire bowl (maybe 2) of Lucky Charms for dinner, it’s because I, as a freaking adult, made that choice 😉

    March 28, 2012 at 12:36 pm

    • Hahaha I actually just got health insurance this year so I did take that step forward. Haha being an adult means giving yourself permission to act like a kid. I love it.

      March 28, 2012 at 1:39 pm

  200. alexa

Haha, I love gogurt! Have you tried “yop”?? They only sell it in France.

    March 28, 2012 at 1:08 pm

    • I have not, but that’s because I’ve never been to France. When I go I’ll be sure to give it a shot.

      March 28, 2012 at 1:42 pm

  201. I wrote a blog post recently called, “23 things I still don’t know how to do at the age of 23” and one of them is taxes. It is good to know i’m not alone, and I too enjoy gogurt so ffff the haters

    March 28, 2012 at 1:10 pm

    • Haha definitely not alone. According to the comment section there are hundreds of us. I love it!

      March 28, 2012 at 1:43 pm

  202. I recently made a Facebook status that said, “I once pinky promised I would not grow up, so here’s to flying around Never Never Land.” I totally mean it. I refuse to stop seeing life as fun, even though I have to do adult-y things likes respond to emails. I’d much rather go rolling down hills or something.

    March 28, 2012 at 1:27 pm

    • I’m right there with you. As I called it in another post, I’m battle Peter Pan Syndrome, and I’m losing…and I’m okay with that.

      March 28, 2012 at 1:43 pm

  203. im 26 and sleep on an air-mattress on my floor. i dont thinka head board is in my future either- so thanks now, instead of letting this make me feel lame I will insist it is a sign of my youth! youre the best! i owe you one

    March 28, 2012 at 1:29 pm

    • Hahah no problem! Glad I could be there in your time of need!

      March 28, 2012 at 1:44 pm

  204. The good thing about to succumbing to adulthood you is that eventually you reach eccentric and you get to do all the fun stuff again or finally and people just go “oh she used to be so together till her mind started ot go…”

    March 28, 2012 at 2:01 pm

    • hahaha I think i’m going to jump over adulthood and go straight eccentricity.

      March 28, 2012 at 2:14 pm

      • just don’t get a red hat, it’s been done…

        March 28, 2012 at 2:15 pm

      • sounds good.

        March 28, 2012 at 2:30 pm

  205. I haven’t read any of the other responses because there are a lot and my attention span wavers at the thought of watching an *entire* episode of Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds so at the risk of repeating what someone else has said, I just want to say:

I think you might have missed the point of adulthood. The great thing about being an adult, the thing that I really love, is that I can do pretty much whatever I want and no one can say a thing about it. So, as an adult, if you don’t want to do your taxes, don’t do them; if you don’t want to vote, don’t vote; and if you want to rot your bowels with whatever gogurt is, you can go right ahead because you’re a grown up and no one can tell you what to do anymore.

    I hope this helps.

From someone who has been eating cake for breakfast for the last 10 years.

    March 28, 2012 at 2:12 pm

    • Wow that is a lot of cake. I love your outlook on it. I think Im the same way.

      March 28, 2012 at 2:22 pm

  206. Awesome post! I’m 24 & can totally relate 🙂

    March 28, 2012 at 2:13 pm

    • glad to hear it. thanks for the comment.

      March 28, 2012 at 2:24 pm

  207. I thought I’m a 42 year old adult, but since I’m only doing one thing on your list (taxes – we always get a refund so its is fun doing them), I might have to reconsider whether I really am an adult yet or not. Congrats on the freshly pressed status and getting so many views/comments, unless you didn’t want that to happen, then things are really messed up for you and I just added to the mess.

    March 28, 2012 at 2:20 pm

    • hahah yeah figures the one that gets pressed is the one that makes me look like an idiot. oh well!

      March 28, 2012 at 2:31 pm

  208. Never filed taxes, my dad them for me one year but I really couldn’t care if the government wants more or less money from me. I know it’s illegal and the IRS is going to come knocking one day, but I don’t ever plan on settling down so I won’t be having a door to be knocked on anyway.
I’m definitely going to vote this time around, unless Ron Paul doesn’t have his own ticket in which case voting becomes a pointless activity pulled along by the plutocrats.
Noon? I slept till seven one day.
And Gogurts gross shit. Never enjoyed sucking on things to get creamy shit out of them.

    March 28, 2012 at 2:41 pm

    • hahaha i like where your heads at

      March 28, 2012 at 2:51 pm

  209. It helps to have your mom work for H&R Block. Now that I’m 47 and mom is gone, I don’t know what to say when the accountant asks for the value of my charitable donations. “Um, I don’t know….whatever results in a number I like?”

The whole adult things sneaks up on you.

Congratulations on being FP, you little bastard.

    🙂

    March 28, 2012 at 2:48 pm

    • hahah thanks for the comment. Im gonna hit up HR block this week I think.

      March 28, 2012 at 2:51 pm

  210. Very entertaining post… I like the rant.

Here is the challenge you face. With the exception of a few career options, you have to at least fake it til you make it with the adult thing. The closer you get to 30, the closer the rest of the world is going to be wondering what the hell you’re up to. Now… I’m not saying, change who you are or give in to the ‘man’, but if you have aspirations that require people to see you as an adult… ya gotta bend a little.

The cool thing is you’re asking questions and raising issues… your mind is working. You’re not a sheep waiting for your next order. There are plenty of people who have change the world because they had a little mix of frustration and curiosity. Ya just gotta play the game sometimes!

Good luck! I look forward to reading more of you posts!

    March 28, 2012 at 4:45 pm

    • Thanks for the comment, I totally hear you. I’m still pretty good at my job and being a normal person. There’s just a few things I haven’t figured out yet

      March 29, 2012 at 8:59 am

  211. This was a pretty hilarious read. I don’t vote either, and without getting too political, I don’t do it because I’m not convinced by any candidates. Still, I turn in my ballot, except I vote ridiculously (Godzilla, Ultraman, Hulk Hogan) so that THE MAN doesn’t try to fabricate a vote under my name. You never know.

I’m just like you about the sleep too, except I’m obligated to be up at 6 for work. Thankfully, I leave work early so I can catch up on my sleep during afternoons.

    March 28, 2012 at 5:09 pm

    • Haha thanks for the comment. I can’t wait til Gozilla is president!

    • Thanks for the comment. I’ll check it out!

      March 29, 2012 at 9:04 am

  213. Just the post that I want to read! It has been in my head for sometime over the dilemmas of growing up. I hate the thought that you just wake up one morning and have to just switch yourself into ‘grown up’ mode. Everyone should keep the kid inside of them. Suddenly i find myself watching all the cartoons I watched when I was a kid.

I am now curious about goghurt too..

    March 28, 2012 at 6:41 pm

    • Haha yeah I think I missed that day I was supposed to flip the switch. Oh well… I guess I’ll just wait til it happens naturally. Good luck with the gogurt, you won’t be disappointed.

      March 29, 2012 at 9:05 am

      • Haha thanks, now will just need to go and find it 😀

  214. rocver

This is fun. I couldn’t stop reading every comment that you got. This is a great blog and I appreciate your honesty. I’m 34, married and with an 11 month old boy. And I still don’t have a headboard on the bed. I don’t know why. I still enjoy watching cartoons.
My parents-and parents-in law-still try to tell us what to do. Even though we do whatever we want-that’s a plus for being a grown up.
Sadly, I have bought furniture from the Furniture store, but that’s just because it was a lot cheaper. I am trying to teach my son to jump up and down on the bed and I laugh my stomach off every time he belches or farts, so I think I’m still not that much of a grown-up.
Somewhere I heard that aging is mandatory, but growing up is optional. I think that there is some truth to that.
And if you want to see it another way, the creators of youtube and facebook are people that are-or were- just about your age when they hit it big. So staying young at heart might have something to do with that kind of success.
Here´s to never growing up! Or at least not growing up completely.
Nice blogs and great sense of humor. =)

    March 28, 2012 at 7:01 pm

    • THank you so much for that comment. I’m glad to see there are more people out there like me. What’s the point of living if you can’t stay young and enjoy the simple things? Glad to have you here as a reader, all the best.

      March 29, 2012 at 9:10 am

  215. I agree, being an adult is over-rated. I still miss school holidays and it is (doing the maths) OMG 27 years since I was at school!

A couple of years ago someone told me I was too old to refer to myself as a girl. That was pretty devastating. My theory is if I’m not a boy I must be a girl regardless of age.

On the inside I still feel about 7 years old. Personally I think it’s worth hanging on to a bit of the inner child.

    March 28, 2012 at 7:40 pm

    • Hey I hear you, totally overrated. And until we start calling our girlfriends, womanfriends, there’s no age limit on being a girl.

      March 29, 2012 at 9:11 am

  216. I’ve been on this planet for half a century, but refuse to happily embrace “adulthood” . . . I blame my attitude about staying a perpetual rough and tumble kid to this.

    March 28, 2012 at 7:55 pm

    • Thanks for the comment Eric, I’ll make sure to check out that post.

      March 29, 2012 at 9:15 am

  217. I’ll definitely join you in the non-adult club. My bed mattress is still on the floor.. so obviously no headboard with it.

TIP: freeze your GoGurt. Its less messy this way & tastes MUCHHH better! Unfortunately I am now lactose intolerant so no more GoGurt for this girl =(
Life’s little way of getting me one step closer to adulthood….

    March 28, 2012 at 7:56 pm

    • Ugh life, what a jerk! Anyway, I’ve got two gogurts in the freezer right now. I love ’em. And we’re glad to have you in the club! See you at the next bbq.

      March 29, 2012 at 9:24 am

  218. lifewithgusto

I’m not an adult either. I was the only mother laughing at the toddler at playgroup who was trying to shout ‘dumptruck’. It sounded like dumb fuck. Also, I don’t even really know what the mysterious verb ‘do’ means in ‘do your taxes’. Never have.

    March 28, 2012 at 8:24 pm

    • Haha that kid was an idiot anyway, I would’ve laughed to. Ya that word do, I just assumed meant avoid. At least that’s how I’ve explained it all these years.

      March 29, 2012 at 9:27 am

  219. salvadorelogreen

I hate to be that guy, but honestly your the type of American who really, really bugs me. You complain about taxes but yet you have no desire to get involved and join the rest of your fellow Americans in trying to change things. Come on man! It’s your responsibility AS an AMERICAN to keep ontop of these things. You can’t take advantage of these things! Please reconsider the laziness of not doing your homework on those that HOLD CONTROL of the DECISION MAKING. that is all~~~

    March 28, 2012 at 9:30 pm

    • You know what, I appreciate your honesty and I see where you’re coming from but let’s get serious here. This is what I’m talking about. Being an adult means having to lecture people on things they clearly don’t care about because you feel it’s your responsibility. And if you reread my post, I don’t complain about taxes. I don’t care that they take my money, I know the country needs it. I complained about the process because I just don’t get it.

As for the voting, it isn’t my responsibility to vote. It’s my choice to vote. It’s a small but important difference. It wouldn’t be a democracy if I was forced to vote now would it? And who says voting is the only way to make a change? If the last few elections have shown anything, it’s the least effective way to bring change that our government has to offer because nothing changes up there.

      March 29, 2012 at 9:23 am

      • salvadorelogreen

Look I’m not trying to be a pest or anything here, but if I had to guess you look 23, 24? It’s time to accept the fact that the time has come for you to grow up and learn how to do these things and become apart of the voting process. Whether you feel it’s your right to be able to not participate in voting and the election of those who have power or if you feel it isn’t the answer here is that it is the RIGHT thing to do in a moral manor. I’m 16 my days as a child are numbered and I can tell you one thing that is the most common thing between myself and the fellow people of my generation we fear growing up because we are seeing that the people that are coming before us are lazy and inconsiderate of our common futures. Your input on the laws or the tax process may not be direct but if you and the rest of the people currently your age decided to do something about all the things that bug this nation than maybe something would get done. Maybe the war would end, and maybe all these discussions about health care laws and gay laws and abortion laws may finally end. How about the imminent war with Iran? How are you going to feel if you get drafted because I’ve done my research and if we had a war with Iran we would lose tens of thousands of our soldiers. BUT if people got more involved with the whole process maybe things would change. I apologize for sort of trolling your blow, congrats on that freshly pressed status, but just a few things for me to shove down your throat and for you to think about. Please consider myself and the rest of our generation, those who will feel the effects of your decisions.

        March 29, 2012 at 1:07 pm

      • Man, I feel bad for you. To think that as a 16 year old you’re worried about this stuff. To think that instead of going to the mall, hanging out with your friends and chasing girls, you’re lecturing people on being mature. The fact that you realize you’re shoving this down my throat makes it clear that you don’t get me or people in general. This isn’t how you make a difference or change someone’s opinion. I will let you know right now, I will not consider you or your generation. When I decide it’s time for me to get educated and vote, which will most likely be this year, it won’t be because of you. Go enjoy life. Be a kid. Not an annoying wanna-be adult. If you read any of the comments on this post, you’d see that people are happy growing up and staying young. Yet, you’re racing to the finish line for some reason. Now time to put on my thinking cap and figure out how I can post these comments, be funny, and not look like a dick for ripping on you.

        March 29, 2012 at 1:15 pm

      • eh, nevermind. It’s not worth my time. You enjoy your “childhood” and I’ll enjoy my life.

        March 29, 2012 at 1:18 pm

      • salvadorelogreen

So quick to pull the age trigger. Such a shame. I’m not in a race to do anything. I’m quite enjoying my last 2 years as a kid actually. But I’m also looking out for my future. Thanks for being an asshole.

        March 29, 2012 at 6:06 pm

      • that’s too bad. only 2 years left as a kid? if you read any of the other 300 comments you’d know there are hundreds of adults that still see them selves as big kids and they are loving life. you rush off to get serious and depressed. enjoy it.

        March 29, 2012 at 7:05 pm

    • I just wanted to say kudos for you for caring despite being ‘only’ 16. Both your comments were mature, thoughtful and passionate. (I say this despite not agreeing with all that you wrote). The fact that you care about the next illegal war of empire (Iran) and the numbers of dead and injured it will inevitably produce shows there is at least some hope for the future of mankind.

The cold hard truth is that nobody is going to look out for your future except YOU. For the last century at least, every generation has been indoctrinated by government education which is based on the Prussian system of ‘Skule’, invented specifically to create a population of easy to control ‘sheeple’. Government education is literally designed to stamp out critical thinking and distort our sense of morality.

You’re the first generation to have grown up with the internet which means you can at least have the opportunity (should you choose to use it) to go beyond what you are told in school (and by mass media) and this is the only reason why you are able to think at all!

The problem is actually very simple. We all live our lives and base our day-to-day interactions (both business and personal) on some pretty basic moral principles. ‘Don’t use force or violence to get what you want’ and ‘don’t steal’ are two of them. Most of us abide by these principles most of the time because if we all didn’t we know we’d still be living like cavemen. Moral virtue is preferable if we are to have a sophisticated and comfortable society. Evil is only ever advantageous in the very short term, at best. It is not sustainable even on a practical level. Most of us recognise these truths and live by them most of the time.

A government, however, is the only group in society which is set up to violate these most basic moral principles. A government has the legal right to initiate force – or even extreme violence, including murder – to get what it wants. No other group in society can initiate force/ violence legally (self defence is not the INITIATION of force). Every government law, all taxation and all regulations and all government policy in general is enforced, quite literally, by initiating the threat or use of force or violence against the public. Every act of government breaks those two basic moral principles which the rest of us abide by: don’t hit and don’t steal.

The system of so called ‘democracy’ is where we (the public) get to vote for one of the candidates or political parties representing this violent institution called the state. The political candidates and their parties use incentives to attract our vote. The only incentives they can use are the effects of the very violence they inflict upon us (taxes, laws, public services etc)

For example the only money the government can use to pay for its incentives to attract voters comes from the printing of money, loans taken out in our names and from taxation. All of these sources of ‘government money’ come from us and are achieved through the government’s use or threat of force/ violence against the public. And all of them make us poorer. The government does not *make* any money, it only ever *spends* money – money which it has extracted from us by force one way or another.

Ok, so here’s the thing… Political parties try to attract our vote (and governments in general try to maintain our general support) by offering every section of society a bunch of ‘free’ stuff that will appeal to them. Healthcare, welfare, wars, tax breaks, schools, pensions and so on. ‘Democracy’ introduces the element of competition (voting). This means we have the situation of different candidates and political parties all competing against each other to offer as many sections of the voting public as much ‘free stuff’ as they can.

      Why is this a problem?

Well, they aren’t paying for any it themselves, they are using money which isn’t theirs at all, but which is extracted from us (and our children) by force/ violence, by the state. It’s like having two friends – who each have access to YOUR credit card – and getting them to compete with each other for your friendship by buying you as many gifts as they can think of!

The INEVITABLE result of this madness can only ever be increased debt run up by successive governments who have got into power by writing blank cheques on our behalf. And this is exactly the situation we see in all western nations ruled by this kind of violent statist ‘democracy’.

The trick of the government is to offset the suffering induced by government spending just enough that we (the public) can’t make a direct link in our minds between specific government polices and our standard of living.

In any other sphere of society we would call the state’s violent taxation THEFT and and we would call the incentives used to gain votes BRIBERY (and using stolen money too!). That is what they are in truth. But when the state does it we call it ‘democracy’ and ‘freedom’. And we allow the state to export this system around the world (AKA ‘spreading democracy’) using yet more extreme violence (bombs, depleted uranium, economic sanctions, guns etc) all of which is paid for by state violence against us in the form of of taxation, money printing and government debt. Like I said, if any other group in society was behaving this way with us we’d spot it immediately and call it out for being immoral and totally insane, but because it’s the government we call it ‘living in the free world’…

… and this leads us right back to so called ‘education’, which of course is not just controlled by the government, it is FORCED onto every child in the country for 15,000 hours starting at age 4 (!)…. a system of schooling invented in Prussia, and we know led the Germany to economic collapse, empire building, fascism and in the end complete destruction.

Apparently, we have not yet learned from history and that is why, at this very moment, we are so busy repeating it.

Any system based on violence (as statism quite clearly is) is destined to be a catastrophic (and bloody) disaster. History confirms this over and over. Being able to vote for which master rules over you is not the same as being able to vote NOT to be a slave. Whoever you vote for the government still gets in. Left wing and right wing politics are the two wings that belong to the same bird called the state.

But there is no government, there are only people and their silly ideas.

Forget growing up…. we need to wake up first 🙂

      March 29, 2012 at 5:34 pm

  220. If you like gogurt, try danactive (by dannan) or kefir. You will love them.

    March 29, 2012 at 1:05 am

    • Actually I saw those at the store the other day. I think I’m going to have to give them a try. Are they healthier?

      March 29, 2012 at 9:30 am

      • They have probiotics in them and less sugar..lemme know what u think!

        March 29, 2012 at 11:58 pm

  221. Ha ha ha, hilarious, being an adult sucks anyway. Maybe one day we can convince them all that life is meant to not be taken seriously 🙂

    March 29, 2012 at 2:11 am

    • I think it’s too late. We’ve already lost them to the dark side. Oh well, more fun for me and u.

Such a fun post! I really wish I was more like that because I’ve been an “adult” ever since the second term of freshman year in college. Sounds crazy, I know, since this is the time when you usually … well, don’t act all grown-up. Lucky for me, I live in a part of this world where you’re of age at 18 and had my fair share of crazy partying, drinking, not worrying. Nevertheless, for the past 8 years (and I’m only 28), I’ve been acting very grown-up only to now envy the 18-year-olds. So cheers to you for evading that sword of Damocles called “adulthood”.

    March 29, 2012 at 2:57 am

    • Haha thanks for the comment. It’s never too late to come back! We’ll always welcome you back with open arms and a tube of gogurt.

      March 29, 2012 at 9:29 am

      • chmarie1399

        Awesome! Thanks. 🙂

        March 30, 2012 at 12:08 am

  223. Growing up is overrated. My parents did my taxes until this year (wait, does that mean I have to do them this year??), and I find that frozen Gogurt is the best. Also, I think that being and adult means you can’t go out Thursday night with friends if you have work Friday morning…a practice that neither I nor my friends have given up. Plus, you can’t be an adult if you are an unmarried, childless grad student, right?? Ugh, adulthood.

    • Ugh adulthood is right! And frozen gogurt is amazing, I’ve got two in the freezer right now. And you’re definition of yourself, childless, unmarried grad student is pure non-adult. That’s exactly what I was last year and I haven’t gotten any closer to adulthood.

      March 29, 2012 at 9:17 am

  224. Brilliant. Growing Up is totally over-rated. Fight it all the way! Loved your blog. Congrats 🙂

    March 29, 2012 at 5:19 am

    • Totally overrated. Thanks for the comment! Glad to be fighting by your side.

      March 29, 2012 at 9:28 am

  225. I LOVE THIS POST!!!!!!!! It’s so funny!!!!!!! I have four kids, get up early, pay my taxes, never eat gogort. . ..I won’t even buy it! Voting??? it’s okay ~ these guys are very interesting anyway. In the end. . .I still don’t feel like an adult. 🙂 You made my day!!!!! I’m a new follow.

    March 29, 2012 at 6:24 am

    • Haha thanks for the comment. Everyone has their own ways of staying young and avoiding adulthood. You keep up yours, I’ll keep up mine, and together, we can avoid making a difference!

      March 29, 2012 at 9:26 am

  226. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You’re a genius!! 😀 😀

    March 29, 2012 at 6:48 am

    • Haha thanks so much. I’ll take that anyday.

      March 29, 2012 at 9:18 am

  227. So funny! At least I know I’m not alone… I did my taxes on my own this year for the first time but ONLY because my dad moved to another state and left me high-and-dry.

I also don’t vote (not even registered) I sure do hate the peer pressure on FB during election weeks though (even for local elections. I’m sorry but what IS a county commissioner and why should I care who gets the job?). I’m not going to the polls to close the curtain and play eenie-meenie-miney-moe. I’ll leave voting to people who have opinions and stronger convictions than I do…

    Great post!

    March 29, 2012 at 6:52 am

    • Thanks and that’s exactly where I’m at. It’s not fair to you for my vote to count as much as yours if I know nothing. And of course I could change that and educate myself but what fun is that?

      March 29, 2012 at 9:19 am

  228. smilepua

I love the headboard comment! I still don’t have one!

    March 29, 2012 at 8:05 am

    • That’s what I like to hear! Keep fighting!

      March 29, 2012 at 9:18 am

      • smilepua

Well it’s funny because I have a really nice apartment with nice stuff but I hate bed frames so my bed is still on the floor.

        March 29, 2012 at 9:30 am

  229. Don’t worry about the headboard, you’ve got plenty of time. We are in our 60’s and just got our first headboard about 6 months ago. And only because we finally put our mattress on a platform. Our headboard is slats you can put shelves into so its utilitarian not just to hold up that end of the bed frame. So until you have something to put on shelves, forget about it.

    March 29, 2012 at 8:53 am

    • That’s a good call, I can’t even fill the shelves I have now!

      March 29, 2012 at 9:28 am

  230. Haha I find the first two funny because I’m a bit similar. I’ve done my own taxes for a few years with turbo tax but sometimes it’s always me going through wondering what all these deductions are. Oh and the alarm thing, I think my boyfriend has got you beat. He has his alarm go off every 10 minutes for an hour in the morning only for him to get up like 5 minutes before he has to walk out the door.

    March 29, 2012 at 9:24 am

    • It’s amazing how addicted you can get to the snooze button. I think I’m going to give it up for a week and see how that goes.

      March 29, 2012 at 9:31 am

  231. In times of stress, when I’m alone in my apartment, I still like to put on my trusty “Sesame Street Platinum Hits” CD. There’s something so comforting about “Fuzzy and Blue” or “Rubber Duckie” that gets my mind off work and school projects.

    March 29, 2012 at 9:38 am

    • I totally hear you. I was jamming out to the fraggle rock theme the other day.

      March 29, 2012 at 9:48 am

  232. i am really in for the voting point , but the fact is IF THE GOVERNMENT IS READY FOR US TO VOTE !! they themselves are so confused about the policies , that is the reason they’ve not been able to pass them for years ! 😀 XD 🙂

  233. Jennifer

I’m going to use “go read in the sunroom” to someone… I hope they will get it and if they do not, I will still find it funny. Thank you!

    March 29, 2012 at 10:29 am

    • Haha that’s awesome. I’m gonna do the same!

  234. Shane Peltzer

Nice! – I totally hear you there, I mean I’m 2 years away from being 30 and I just don’t feel like I’m 100% an adult. Maybe it is my need to listen to my fave songs since highschool, maybe it is I use words like “totally” and “awesome.” Maybe it’s because I haven’t had any life changing events yet, who knows. A great article, really got me thinking.

    March 29, 2012 at 10:30 am

    • Hey, never stop using the word awesome. It’s making a strong come back right now, awesome is the new awesome.

      March 29, 2012 at 11:15 am

        Radical!

Right! – This article also reminded me of a song I just posted on my own blog. It is called “Growing Up” by The Salads.

It’s hilarious how many of these comments are about Gogurt…great post! 🙂

  238. I am 45, recently became a grandmother, and I still don’t consider myself grown up! I love to sleep in when I have the opportunity (rare!); I love to torment my children (they tell me to grow up); I run and I do Zumba (which really embarrasses my daughters, but I think it’s because I can shake it better than they can!). I refuse to be a boring mom or grandma! I want to be the fun one! Enjoy life ~ you only get one shot at it!

    March 29, 2012 at 11:00 am

    • haha that’s awesome. Gotta love it when people younger than you are telling you to grow up. It means you’re doing something right.

      March 29, 2012 at 11:19 am

  239. Oh geeze, where do I begin – there are a whole bunch of things that keep me from being an adult. Here are the top 5…
    1) There are Ramen noodles in our cupboard
    2) I don’t have a headboard either
    3) I believe pie, cake or any other baked good is a perfect supplement for breakfast foods
    4) I buy chocolate milk – and we have no kids
    5) I laugh everytime I see the McDonald’s chicken McBites commercial because I think it sounds like Chicken McButts.

    March 29, 2012 at 11:41 am

    • haha you’re like the 10th person to talk about eating ice cream, or cake, or pie for breakfast. I love it. I am definitely missing out on that. And to continue proving I’m not an adult, I laughed out loud just reading McButts.

      March 29, 2012 at 11:57 am

  241. You sound an awful lot like my boyfriend, who incidentally just turned 26.
Growing up is kind of overrated anyway…

    March 29, 2012 at 12:58 pm

    • Kind of? Way overrated. Your boyfriend sounds like a great guy.

      March 29, 2012 at 1:01 pm

      • He is. Keeps me young and having fun! So you’re right, growing up is totally overrated. 🙂

  242. The Recycled Dogs

I’m proud to say that I’ve been faking it as an adult most of my adult life.

I still stick my tongue out at random passers by when I’m on the bus… :p

    March 30, 2012 at 9:15 am

    • hahaha that’s awesome. I still try to get big rigs to honk their horns.

      March 30, 2012 at 9:33 am

      • phoebemunson

😀 I should hope so too, that’s what they’re there for!

I also still get an uncontrollable urge to pinch people when they’re not looking and blame it on whoever is next to me too.

        March 30, 2012 at 9:39 am

  245. Hahaha what a funny post! I just turned 24 and I refuse to call myself an adult just yet 🙂

    March 30, 2012 at 9:23 pm

    • haha thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Keep fighting it!

      March 30, 2012 at 10:51 pm

  246. Great post. Growing up will suck the life out of you, so I’m holding out as long as I can!

    March 31, 2012 at 2:24 pm

    • Same here, we can fight it together!

      March 31, 2012 at 3:41 pm

  247. lee

Great post! It took me a looooong time before I started feeling sorta-kinda like an adult, sometimes. OK, maybe most of the time now.

But that doesn’t mean I still can’t eat Lucky Charms or Cap’n Crunch for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner.

    March 31, 2012 at 5:40 pm

    • Definitely not! Get after those cereals! Thanks for the comment.

      April 1, 2012 at 8:10 am

  249. I don’t want to be an adult anyways…let’s just leave that to the ….adults.

    April 1, 2012 at 3:42 pm

  250. ruolngulworld

Great post! I’m going to be 50 this year but in my mind I am still in my 20s. Perhaps, hopefully, I’ll finally become an adult this year 🙂

    April 2, 2012 at 1:32 am

    • I say the same thing every year and it never happens, keep fighting it!

      April 2, 2012 at 9:11 am

  251. lmao! This is great! I’m only 23 but I have a 7 month old baby so I feel like I’m supposed to act like an adult, but… 1. I don’t have a headboard (I do have a bed frame–1point for me!) 2. I still eat Chefboyarde–it’s so good and has a full serving of veggies! 3. I don’t eat veggies–but some adults don’t eat veggies, right?
Unfortunately, my work makes me wake up at 6am. On the weekends, when my baby wakes up at 8am, I bring him in the bed with me so we can both sleep til 9-10am (oh how I miss sleeping til noon!). I’m an accountant, so i know all about taxes lol Great post!!!

    April 2, 2012 at 8:36 am

    • Ugh I wish I was an accountant, these taxes are freaking me out! And speaking of eating veggies, I really need to get on that. I’ve been terrible lately. Thanks for the comment!

      April 2, 2012 at 9:12 am

  252. …and here i thought i was the only one who has trouble being all grown up!especially the saving part, and having to wake up early in the morning.i believe as adult as we are,we still have our childishness buried inside somewhere and most time they fight to come out so we let them…but well am grown up,and my grown up things won’t do themselves.

    April 2, 2012 at 11:11 am

    • haha that’s true, there are certain things that we’ve got to do but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun in between them. ya, i’m clearly not a big fan of saving money either.

      April 2, 2012 at 11:34 am

  253. just paid my taxes today. grr. i feel your pain!

    April 2, 2012 at 8:44 pm

    • ugh i’ve got a meeting with H&R block thursday. I think i owe money! that’s no fun!

  255. Absolutely love this post! Sometimes I wish I wasn’t an adult. It gets real tiring after awhile. I guess you’re never too old to let the kid within you out. 🙂

    April 5, 2012 at 8:42 pm

    • I totally hear you. You dont have to be one all the time

      April 6, 2012 at 9:35 am

      • It almost seems that if you let the kid in you show that people automatically see you as not mature. It’s one of those things…like how people tend to see the bad more then the good things people do.

        April 6, 2012 at 12:30 pm

  256. Should it not be “Why can not the day not start at 12” and Gogurts 😦 if I have to eat those to be an adult, then no thank you. I’ll stay a kid.

    April 9, 2012 at 6:05 pm

    • I don’t think you understood that post. I’m saying I’m not an adult because I want to wake up late and I like gogurts. Those weren’t the rules for being an adult, they were ways I’ve avoided becoming an adult.
